Is this the worst defense since Nick's first year?

We seem to be hurting at CB and on the DL. Bad combination. I'm glad our Offense has the potential to be dominating. I'm not down on the team and this isn't me bad mouthing our guys. You can't field the best D every year although we have done exactly that for a few years. This is just a different Alabama team and will still be fun to watch the rest of the year.

2 good games, 1 really bad game. Let's wait and see how they do the rest of the year.

I would have like to seen the A&M game had Belue not gotten hurt and missed the 2nd half.

I think it also has a lot to do with the schedule. We had a good showing against a soft VT offense then an immediate bye week in which i actually think hurt us. Then we had an emotional win on the road to turn around and open up at home against a cupcake that even Saban himself said nobody took seriously. Wasn't his exact words but close enough. I think our defense needs time to get into rhythm much like the offense. We WILL be a good/great defense by the middle of October.

I'll let you know after Saturday. This D could become dominant, I believe. It starts with getting blue back. And those young lineman getting more comfortable getting after the QB. But it could be, but that's not saying much, we always have had a #1 D.

Saban has seen that the sport is moving more towards an offensive type of game and there is more need there for us. 2008 and 2009 we were able to win with defense but our offense needs to be able to put up points consistently to win games now.

We gave up 35 points to South Carolina in 2010 with Stephen Garcia at QB. STEPHEN GARCIA.

Our defense struggled in one game this year so far against one of the best CFB players ever.

I will save judgement until we play more games.

At this point in the season, probably so. There is just so much more you can do when you have a lock down corner that you don't have to worry about on 1/2 the field. It will also be tough to gauge since we play seemingly weaker talent though. If one of the young CBs develop by the time we play LSU and Geno Smith and Collins elevate their game over the next month this could end up being a very deadly defense.

Just like the Offense it just seems to be coming together slower than we had expected.

STEPHEN GARCIA.

When he wanted to take care of business he was a very affective QB. I don't know why you are hating on him. Lattimore was a beast too.

Because the guy was a train wreck the majority of the time he was at South Carolina.

My point is, 2010 was worse than this one as far as I can see.

If Ole Miss puts up 400+ on us, then yes, this is Saban's worst D.

A lot of Texas fans still wonder about a game a few years back to. ...if only Colt hadn't gotten hurt.

I'd say this Dis better than 08 and 2010. We've only had one bad game defensively.

One thing that stands out much like 2010 is the lack of a dominant Nose Guard

2009 - Cody
2010 - Big Drop off with Chapman
2011/2012 - Jesse Williams

Now we're back to square one. I haven't seen a NG that consistently stands up a double team this year, and that could really hurt us against power back teams, and there's two good ones in UGA and LSU.

Meh - Cody wouldn't have played much against JFF, it at all. The game has changed. Georgia, us, and LSU are all that's left of the old guard that still doesn't rely on a mobile QB.

Well I'm much more concerned about facing LSU than I was with Texas A&M this year...

Especially if we have trouble stopping the run up the middle.
