Yetis arent that much better if you dont pre cool them and dont open the lid.

This. To use a Yeti properly, you really want to get the inside super cold before you take it out.

Look at some other brands too. K2 Coolers, Grizzly, et cetera.

Use one at the farm when I go out to help. Hold ice and stay cool better than any other I've ever used.

The coolers are badass and ice lasts forever. Not worth the money if you only use a cooler for a couple hours but if you need a cooler for camping or fishing trip where you can't get ice for a couple days then it is worth it.

I'm convinced that YETI's are no longer purchased though and people simply steal one and then it gets stolen from them and the cycle keeps going until eventually you steal one and then you're back at the beginning.

Depends what you will use them for. Day at the pool or tailgating? Not worth it. The Coleman Extreme does just as good of a job, and are considerably lighter. Fishing all day in the extreme heat or sitting at the beach all day? Worth it.

They've become a status symbol.

100% dead on, all of it.

I have a Pelican that is about 100 less than a yeti that I use for work. It sits in the sun all day in the heat and can hold ice for about 2 or 3 days once the drinks are cooled down. Basically i drop in ice Monday morning and Tuesday morning and it lasts the rest of the week.

Lol at a cooler being a status symbol. Only in the south.

Well it is. Just like kids wanting Costa Del Mar sunglasses and a sticker on the car or truck that says it. There are a lot of sunglasses better than Costas with much better customer service but that is what people want.

As for a Yeti cooler, at least it is one of the best instead of having a lot of options above it.

I have a buddy when went on a week long fishing trip this summer and said he used the same ice all week. I didn't see it with my own eyes, but that is what he said...

I can confirm they do. Like I said, they're great for specific, long-term uses. But for general use, they're a bit overkill. My Coleman Extreme I paid $50 for keeps stuff cold for 2-3 days. The ice is melted by the 3rd day, but the beer is still cold. And that's all that matters.

Really good.

Worth the money?

I think they are a little overpriced to be honest but my wife bought mine for my wedding present. I have the 35qt one and it's perfect for what I use it for. I take it fishing with me to put drinks and snacks in, or just another seat in the jon boat. I take it with me when we head down to Mobile to see my in-laws because my wife always brings home some frozen vegatables from her mom and grandmother. I put it on the back porch when we grill out so we can have drinks on the back porch while watching tv out there so we don't have to keep walking inside.

There are some cheaper versions available such as the K2 cooler. I think that a lot of people get them just for a status symbol and I think that's dumb. I just got lucky and my wife bought me one.

I will tell you though, if you get a YETI then you better not leave it where someone can take it because that'll be $200+ down the drain. If you leave it in the back of a pickup truck you better have it secured to the truck with a cord and locking system.

eta - they work great but they work better if you condition the cooler before use. if it's been sitting in the heat then you should put a bag of ice in it for a little bit so it cools down the inside temperature. Then emtpy it and put your drinks, etc. in there and put new ice in. This is how I do mine all the time and I've had ice last upwards to 6-7 days without melting much if at all. I've also had to knock ice chunks off of canned drinks, and the frozen vegatables that I have put in it.

I dressed mine up with a decal. One of our customers started this logo called "The Morning Woody" for duck hunting and he got me this one made to go on my yeti.

I saw a "orca" cooler not to long ago. It looks identical to the YETI. If the YETI coolers weren't so damn heavy I would be more inclined to buy one.
