The Hoosiers are PISSED that people from St. Louis have long used the term "hoosier" as an extremely derogatory word to describe the lowest of white trash.

quote:

HOOSIER - From urban dictionary:

St. Louis Meaning: White trash of the worst kind. Also used as an adjective to describe anything several notches below your own perceived sophistication. Dates back to a strike that occurred in St. Louis in the 30's. During this strike, scab workers from Indiana were brought in to fill in for strikers. The perjorative hoosier stems from the St. Louis workers’ lack of appreciation for this.

This picture of a fan and his girlfriend at Busch Stadium was recently used on a St. Louis website to describe what a “Hoosier” is

The following article written by an Indiana Hoosier fan who lives in St. Louis perfectly describes his surprise and disdain that when St. Louisians use the word "hoosier", it's worse than being called hick, white trash, bamafan, or swamprat.

Indiana PISSED About Missouri's Use of the Word "Hoosier"

Here are some excerpts from the article:

quote:

When I moved to St. Louis a couple of years ago, I was unaware that people in Missouri use “Hoosier” as a derisive and mocking term to describe white trash or a hayseed. I learned it very quickly, and loathed it. I’m not originally from Indiana, but the “Wow, he’s so Hooz," (prounounced like “rouge”) got old in a hurry.

quote:

I want the Hoosiers to beat the living hell out of the Missouri Tigers this Saturday night for a variety of reasons, but chief among them is the oddly haughty attitude people in the Show Me State display toward those from Indiana.

fricking Hooz.

It's a St. Louis thing.

I can confirm that STL uses the word "Hooz" or "Hoosier" in a very derogatory way. The rest of Missouri doesn't even know that people in St. Louis do this. You only learn if you move to STL or if you happen to become friends with people from STL.

For example, when I was in college I lived on a dormatory floor full of St. Louis kids. We all became fast friends, but I was always perplexed when they would call a random piece of shite white trash person a "hoosier".

However, the more we hung out, the more I found myself calling trashy people "hoosiers" all of the time. In fact, from time to time I find myself mutter the words to this day:

"Jesus...what an effing hooz."

Sounds like Big Ten trash talk to
Me. I like it.

Mizzou's SEC cred just improved a bit.

Still have a long way to go tho.

STL has been calling the entire state of Indiana "white trash" since the 1920s.

I have to be honest, Indiana white trash might be the trashiest of the white trash genus.

Being a "South St. Louis " Hoosier not to be confused with a South St. Louis County Hoosier, I have dropped the Hoosier bomb on several occasions here in Memphis.

When I call a Redneck a Hoosier down here my friends ask me what the difference between the two are. My answer is a Hoosier is a better dresser than your average Redneck !!

Btn or espn2. Its probably not worth watching. If mizzu has a good secondary, they will roll in this game.
