Have we given up on defense?

Outside of Florida and Lsu...everyone in the Sec is allowing shoot outs and forty point games. What has happened to the Sec defense? Alabama allowed 42 points last week. A saban lead team played that badly on defense. I mean it was insane how easy they made it for Manziel to throw on them.
South Carolina couldn't hold Georgia near thirty either. What happened to defense wins championships? Is the Sec trying to become the Big 12, or are the Sec offenses so elite even good defenses have no chance?

Lots of good QBs (minus UF) and young defenses.

I feel ya. I'm not concerned about it being bad other than THAT game for us, but I still feel ya.

Sorry but Arkansas hasn't faced an offense worth mentioning. Would have to see them hold aggies or bama or lsu under 30.

If fact, in the latest presser with Les Miles, he stated, "...we have a great want to play offense. So great, that we are actually not going to field a defense any longer at LSU, so our offense can jump right back on the field."

I don't think we've just given up yet, but we didn't go a good job of playing it in our second game.

I've never seen such a panic about the sky falling in with so little evidence, and that includes the original fable the term came from.

Overreaction. Lots of young D's and good QB's.

Wasn't like a slame on bama btw. Just kind of noticing more and more shoot outs. Three years ago 32-29 was a high scoring game between elite sec programs...now It's in the fourties lol. Is it missouris fault? I somehow feel they are to blame here.

It was shocking. Alabama's defense isn't that bad. Two main things in my opinion. First, obviously, Alabama's corners could not cover Evans. Belue and Geno Smith being out is hurting, but that guy is just a incredibly tough cover.
Second, I think Alabama ended up over preparing in a way. I think Alabama's defensive players looked tentative and like they were thinking about things so much to the point they didn't play fast or instinctively at all. I know Saban wanted them to play disciplined, assigment football, but I think they had a little paralysis by analysis going on. Alabama's defense will be fine.
ETA: Obviously, Manziel had a lot to do with all of this. I didn't mean for it to sound any differently. He absolutely made some plays I don't think any other QB in the country makes on some well defended plays.

No just crazy good QBs Murray, McCarron, manziel, mett, shaw.
Next year they are all gone.

As has already been stated, great QB play and some young defenses. Plus, with more teams running the spread, defenses just haven't caught up yet, but they will. Kentucky caught everyone by surprise once too, but the league adapted.
