The occasional night of getting drunk doesn't cause any more "health problems" then eating too much sugar, consuming too much caffeine, etc. You're making the blanket assumption that I drink to get drunk every night.

No, I'm not making that assumption at all. My point is that alcohol consumption to the point of drunkenness has adverse health effects. Again, that's not even debatable.

quote:

Where did I say I have to become someone else to improve relationships? I'm still myself when I'm drunk. You made the comment that I was harming relationships while drunk. Even going so far as to say I'm throwing away my dignity. I provide evidence to the contrary. And as a responsible adult who can legally consume as much alcohol as I want as long as I'm not a public disruption and/or drive home while under the influence you're right, I don't see any problem with it whatsoever.

You said "If anything relationships were improved that night because me and my friends/family got to sit around, tell stories, and laugh until it hurt." You believe that getting drunk improves relationships. And yes, it does change one's personality, that's one of the reasons given for drunkenness. The suggestion is that more fun can be had, relationships are improved, life is better if one alters their mind through excessive alcohol consumption. In other words, individuals can't just be themselves, they must be someone else. Someone they're not when they're sober. I've never seen a dignified drunk person. There's always embarrassment in some form while inebriated, but that's funny too....to the drunk.

Now,as far as maturity, hopefully you'll find acceptence of yourself to a point of not needing an alcohol crutch.

Doing pretty much anything too much has adverse health effects.

Yeah, use religion as a crutch instead.

Too much of anything can have an adverse effect. But the effects of the occasional drunken evening is no more than anything I named before (i.e. caffeine, eating sweets, etc). Context and comprehension sweetheart. Use it.

Those relationships would've improved whether I was drunk or not. Once again, I was refuting your claim that being drunk around people harms relationships. Just because it changes your personality doesn't mean it changes mine. Not everyone has the Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde complex when they drink, even though you clearly have or you wouldn't be so adamantly against other adults drinking.

I accept myself just fine. Hopefully you can reach a point of maturity that you won't feel like you have to judge people because you're clearly unhappy with yourself.

(literally)

You need to loosen up dude. Being stuck up is no way to go through life. This isn't just about getting drunk either. If you analyze every single risk in your life, I guarantee you won't enjoy it as much as you could. Live a little.

Funny thing is he'll probably croak from the stress before the rest of us "drunks" because he couldn't live a little.

Alcohol is water soluble. It completely flushes out of your body, and new tests that are used to show alcohol consumption past that, detect the production of proteins and enzymes that scientists say are good for you. So ha!

Ha! Indeed.

It's science!

quote:

Once again, the researchers found that abstaining from alcohol increases the risk of dying, even when you exclude former alcoholics who have now quit. (The thinking is that ex-drinkers might distort the data, since they’ve already pickled their organs.) While 69 percent of the abstainers died during the 20-year time span of the study, only 41 percent of moderate drinkers passed away. (Moderate drinkers were also 23 percent less likely to die than light drinkers.) But here’s the really weird data point: Heavy drinkers also live longer than abstainers. (Only 61 percent of heavy drinkers died during the study.) In other words, consuming disturbingly large amounts of alcohol seems to be better than drinking none at all.

Been there, done that. I've been drunker than any of you, out of control, sick and throwing up from alcohol abuse. I look back and ask myself, why did I do that? Why is that socially acceptable and actually admired by so many that they have to brag about it?

If it wasn't for my social life and getting drunk on some weekends throughout my life I wouldn't have so many friends, connections, and business possibilities that I do now.

If it wasn't for alcohol I wouldn't have had the courage to go dance with a random chick at a bar and get her number, who is now my faithful girlfriend of 8 months.

Thanks for the want to go party, I met a guy who is now my business partner and we are starting a catfish farm next year and are a couple weeks away from getting the loan to do so, which has been a lifelong dream of mine to one day get my own farm.

Alcohol has indirectly done more good for me than bad.
