The temperature is relatively warm year around, but it rains almost everyday in Florida.
I assumed every big time program had an indoor practice field.
Only a few practices per year are effected. It is something that gets discussed all the time, but usually gets shot down and there has never really been a push by anyone to have one.

State is getting a nice IPF strictly for football here soon. It's still funny they use the baseball one though.

The A&M indoor practice facility is a waste of space. Hardly ever used. Practicing in A/C makes your team soft.

Doesn't the FTAB use it to practice in every now and then?

So we laugh at the schools with multi-use IPF's.
Must suck having cross country, softball, and football all practicing at the same time.

Haha, Missouri's field is small. Props to Michigan though

It's not full size, but 90 yds so it's not small. We will be building a full size IPF sometime soon. I'm just guessing but since we are spending 15-20 million on a softball stadium, the IPF should be pretty nice.

So you have an IPF for football and an Indoor Track for T&F. Those are two separate things.
Nah, the track side is modular. It's dual-use whereas the football-only side isn't.
At any rate, despite having two, Sumlin doesn't use either. The track side is used for track meets and never converted or used for walkthroughs or drills and the football-only side isn't used either. Sumlin's whole philosophy toward the game of football is tempo. Practice is the same way. The pace of practice is fast, fast, fast and he wants it in the heat so we are used to it and can achieve the same tempo in games without cracking. Hanging out in the AC is anathema to what we're trying to accomplish. I wish we could tear it down, because it's ugly and looks insanely cheap, but it's probably a good recruiting tool.

Do you A&M guys think schools are using these because its too hot? I've seen quite a few of you respond with this statement.
I can't speak for the rest of the SEC but Arkansas only uses ours when it is raining and even then they don't use it every time it rains. They practiced outside this week in a downpour to prepare for any bad weather games.
They never use the IPF because it is too hot or cold outside.

I like Auburn's and FSU's. They both look like indoor stadiums with no seats and the rest just look like fieldhouses.

Yes. Sherman was notorious for holding practices indoors to avoid the heat.
As a direct result, look at our 2011 season. In 5 of our 6 losses, A&M had a double-digit lead at halftime. Team got gassed in the 2nd half bc they were used to practicing indoors.

Yup. Sherm was very public about how much he loved it because it was out of the heat. He liked to practice in there, he said, because it didn't drain the guys and kept them ready for Saturday. I disagree with that theory. The proof is in the pudding.
It rained some on practice yesterday in CS. Sumlin was outside.

Bama pretty much only goes inside for storms, which are quite frequent in Alabama. I don't think we go inside for heat.
