If old money means money dating back to the 1920s, I too come from and benefit from old money.

This is ridiculous.

No wonder Johnny Manziel isn't giving a shite about what other people think.

An article going back to the 1800s to figure out what's wrong with the college kid? Get a life.

One of the commenters says JFF was a kleptomaniac.

I'm tellin' ya!

Seems a little over the top. I seriously doubt the kid is a closet mob lieutenant.

Not sure what was wrong with my thread other than the fact that I started it.

The Admins clearly didn't read the Manziel article. The article indicated that JFF's great great grandfather was referred as The Syrian here in the United States due to his Syrian lineage and crooked dealings.

Therefore, I don't understand what was wrong with my thread.

The problem was that this thread already existed, which is where the information came from, which is where your post should've gone.

The money is 3rd generation, aka "old money".

I never said the Manziel's had class. I responded to the guy who thought it was suspicious that the Manziel's "only" bought a $360k house in BCS (which will buy a pretty nice house there btw) as a home to live in while Johnny was in school. My point is that his folks likely don't feel the burning need to have to keep up appearances as being loaded and honestly would rather people not talk about their money. Yet at the same time they, like most "old money" folks spend their money on things they care about and don't GAF what other people think. Sometimes that is obvious to others and sometimes it isn't but typically "old money" doesn't want to talk about their money, they just want to enjoy it and protect it.
Momma Manziel is a real estate agent - Daddy Manziel runs a Honda dealership - They're selling a realtively meager home in CS for $360,000, when they paid +$400,000 for it.....

That doesn't look like old "Texas" oil barron kinda money. Looks like a normal midddle class momma and daddy working and living.

Dad's probably pulling in at least $250,000, plus whatever mom's making in her real estate gig.

They're doing okay even if there isn't oil money.

Got it, Rummy.

On another note...I wish you didn't hate me so much. I've become a far better poster since my retarded debut on here.

Paul grew up on this course as a kid, the grandson of a Texas oil fortune, which still funds the family. Enough remains to make sure Johnny never wants for anything. "It's not Garth Brooks money," Paul says, laughing, "but it's a lot of money."

Well, the story itself isn't that odd. I don't know many successful Southern families without their share of skeletons in the closet and bodies in the backyard. Hell, most of them are kind of proud of them.

The strange thing about the Manziel's is, they kept doing all the stupid shite. Most families with ties to organized crime, bootlegging and the Dixie Mafia gave that shite up in the 70s or earlier. They became respectable.

The Manziels seem to have kept at it up into the 2000s.

I tend to agree

Real old money is really quiet and stays well below the radar in both appearance and media.
