I had tickets for the SEC basketball tourney in the DR. Pepper area one year they had free beers and you could only drink them in a designated area.

CSB time!
There is a section of GT's stadium where you can drink anything...full bar!

So what would happen if say Anheiser-Busch signed a deal with Missouri athletics and they started selling it at games exclusively.
Would Slive step in?
Would other SEC schools follow suit?

There is no actual SEC rule about this. Most of the stadiums are state property and most of the states have rules/laws prohibiting alcohol on state property. Vandy has actually sent out surveys to season ticket holders asking if they would be in favor of selling beer in the past. I always checked yes but they have never released the results (For all I know it was 100% in favor and they still decided not to).
As far as tournaments and such go, I have no idea why they don't sell.

Really? That surprises me. I know you can at the non conference season openers at the Georgia Dome, , etc, but I thought all SEC sponsored games had a rule against it?

All the studies are saying fans are less drunk and more safe if you sell the beer at the game because it eliminates the need to binge drink right before you enter the stands.

people quit drinking right before the game at tailgates b/c you can buy inside then you end up waiting in 10 minute lines which kinda stop you from making frequent trips. so in the end, it kind of is a way to have people end up less drunk.

when grind god merlins ascends to grind heaven maybe hud will demand state sell beers for him to take over the grind.

There are a lot of reasons to do it, one revenue, but two it reduces the number of alcohol problems in the stadium. People are drinking less before the games and fewer people are getting into trouble as a consequence.

It would keep a lot of folks from bringing in bourbon too.
I know I exclusively drink beer at the tailgates but sneak in a flask for the game. I have to rewatch the 2nd half on my DVR sometimes just to see what happened.

Eventually it will happen.

You cannot buy beer at FL/GA unless you are in the club sections.
I was about to say, you sure as hell can't just buy it anywhere

If West Virginia has been able to sell beer at their home games without burning down campus, surely the SEC can manage this.
