It's a slow Monday and I wanted to do a little fishing. Looks like I got a few.

IT's hard for someone to act like they have been there before...when they have notbeen there before.
This success is new to them and they don't know how to act or handle it.
Last season was only the 12th time, they won 10 or more games and first time since 1998. They have had 4 losing seasons in between those two seasons.
It has been a while since they had anything to crow about so this is not unexpected.
A&M has more conference titles than any SEC school except Bama. We won 6 in 8 years not long ago and didn't have a losing season over an 18 year stretch. To act like A&M has never had success is laughable. Also, the 12 game season and Conference Championship are relatively new additions to the college football landscape and making 10 win seasons far easier to attain with most teams having 13 game schedules with a bowl.
Why is A&M getting hyped? Well, we were arguably the best team in college football in the second half of the season. We didn't just beat Bama, they beat the crap out of everyone else after the LSU game including the teabagging of what was thought to be a very good OU team. Many thought the best matchup for a NC game would have been an A&M/Bama rematch. A&M finished 8 points away from being undefeated. We finished Top 5 with a Heisman winner who is returning.
Does any of that make a NC or SEC Title? Of course not, but to act as though A&M was an also ran or that it was just a "meh" season is also a joke. A&M will almost certainly start the season Top 5 or very close to it and if they beat Bama A&M will almost certainly be #1 with a favorable schedule to run the table. Keep up your denial though, it is starting to make me laugh as much as Texas fans acting like going to the SEC was a disaster move for A&M.

Wow. That's some serious delusions of grandeur you've got going on there.

First off, any title except the SEC or NC holds no weight in any arguments now or in the future. That's like saying you were badass in middle school but when you got to high school not so much

These are my favorites! "A&M caught Bama on a bad week." :beatdeadhorse:

I dont understand how A&M gets so much praise about last season. Yeah, JF got a heisman, but their team finished the regular season 5th or 6th in the SEC and 3rd in the west. And they lost 2 out of 3 of their toughest games. They got out of playing UGA, and USC and had to have a miracle vs Ole Miss and La Tech (gave up probably 600 yards and 57 points, lol). Besides JF and beating Bama, what was so special about last season? They are getting alot of hype this year because of a middle of the pack SEC season.
Win a division, or the SEC, or a championship if you want recognized.
I agree in general. I also do not see A&M as a serious contender for the SEC title this year. I think Bama, LSU, and UGA are all better and USC and FL are just as good. A&M may finish a bit higher in the SEC due to a weaker schedule this year though.
That said, I think A&M is going to be a beast very soon. By 2015, I think they will have a couple of top 5 classes under their belt as they are kicking UT's arse in Texas right now and will be as talented as anyone.

Most of A&M's conference Titles were from the days when the SWC was every bit as strong as the SEC. The SEC dominance didn't take hold until the last 15 years, up until then only Bama had a significant number of NC's.
I'm not arguing that A&M has an elite history but to act as though A&M has always sucked is also a joke. We are still a Top 15 All Time program in terms of wins. Can several other SEC schools make bolder claims? Absolutely, but A&M isn't some also ran historically.
None of that accounts for the trajectory of the program with the new stadium, facilities, and money that will put A&M on par with anyone in the SEC or the country. A&M isn't a one hit wonder that doesn't have the resources to sustain success.

Holee shite! Really that's your argument. Matter of fact, we did it in 2011, 2007, 2003
Really? So LSU has FIVE Heisman winners now?
Damn, I missed all of that shite.
And if you don't think those seasons you mentioned were special, you haven't been on the interwebz the whole time. This happens to be the most special period in LSU's football history, and it has a lot to do with 11-2 seasons and winning bowl games.
quote:
I will take a NC over a Heisman any day
So would I. But to say that winning a BCSCG is more special than winning a Heisman, doesn't mean that having a Heisman winner on the team isn't a special season in and of itself. Hell, we were freaking out when Mathieu was just invited to the Heisman banquet - and he didn't even win.
Get over it. A&M's first season in the league and they beat the champions - and most everybody else and go on to win their bowl game after everyone said they would fall flat on their face makes it a pretty damn special season in my eyes.

You are right, it has been a while. In fact this is the longest stretch since A&M started playing in a football conference in the early 1900's that we have not won a title. You can take that argument either way but considering the size of the school and resources at its disposal to assume we are likely to do worse than when we were an All Male Military school doesn't seem like a good bet.
I also love how people continue to bring up A&M getting Bama after LSU as the main reason we won. Yet at the same time you never see Aggies mention how LSU got A&M after playing that 59-57 5 hour slugfest that was on ESPNU last night or that A&M played Bama at the end of a 5 out of 6 road game stretch and did not have a bye all season. You have to play every week regardless of the schedule.

We scored late against Ole Miss, but what's so miraculous about that? Their defense sucked.

So from the 60s and 70s?
Aggy didn't win the SWC consistently until SMU quit for a couple years, Texas was on probation, and Arkansas left the conference.
After Arkansas left, aggy was Texas state champs several times over.
