The heat in San Antonio is bad in August and September. Worse than Mississippi which is as bad as I have seen it anywhere except for a few days in Memphis

Lebron James might give your linebacker some problems if he lines up at tight end.
With D-Wade toting the rock, I don't see anyone being able to compete.

It cannot be any hotter at aTm. That's just more nonsensical myth being perpetrated by the aTmers.

here's a trivial game. Try to find a car with TX plates that has clear windows. If you believe this you have never been to TX. It's hot as hell there

Weather Comparison of a few SEC (or close) cities

Based on these graphs it looks like A&M, UF, and LSU get the hottest. The biggest difference was how many more days above 90 Houston/Austin had vs. Baton Rouge and Gainesville.

I could see where it MIGHT be a SLIGHT factor for the more northern teams (Mizzou, TN), but, for teams like LSU, BAMA, FLA, etc, I'm pretty sure it's a wash.

The humidity will not be near 90 in college station unless rain is on the way. Texans and their exaggerations. I mean its raining there now and their only at 70%.
Digging deeper the area college station is in is even less humid come August 10th on through the fall. July is the most humid month.

Having worked construction in both LA and FLA, I would say LA is much worse....there is no breeze in LA. There is always a breeze in Fla.

Climatologically speaking, the average may be a degree or two hotter than places like LSU or other gulf states, but Texas gets mostly continental dry air across Mexico. Further East the southwesterly flow goes across the Gulf pumping in more moisture. So there's generally less humidity in Texas and more in the Deep South. Humidity is what prevents evaporative cooling via sweat. So you will be more uncomfortable the higher the humidity if temps are above 90 (the hottest day of my life I can recall was when the high was 93 degrees).

In reality, players don't walk around carrying temp. gauges or hydrometers so to them it doesn't matter where you play in the South in September its hotter than a motherfricker under those pads.

I agree. The pads add at least 25-30 degrees easy. I was just replying to the aggie that said it was 95% humidity there. It rarely gets anyway near that there. The sun in that part of Texas is brutal when there's no clouds

A game late aug/early sept will be anywhere from 97 to 103 in college station depending on the start time of noon or 2:30. Humidity will be around 90 to 95 percent.

Now that sounds like a good South Louisiana summer day....and 0% chance of rain....yeeeaahhh buddy!

I lived in Houston 2 years and the south my entire life (and Miami).

I never noticed Houston to be noticeably hotter than Atl, Birmingham, NOLA, or AU in August/September. Maybe a tiny bit/marginally, but nothing noteworthy.

This is the big problem in LA. Even though BR is close to the river it still doesn't ever have much of a breeze. I grew up in South LA and now live in South MS and while the temperature and humidity are just about the same it's 10x better in MS because of the breeze.

ETA: I'd take straight Texas heat over South LA/MS/AL/FL humidity + heat. It's like you are walking around in a 90 degree swimming pool here. In Texas all you have to do is find some shade.

Article about Heat & Performance

There was an Art about a study done at the University of Oregon on the effect of heat and sports above.

The report found;

quote:

The study found performance increases of approximately 7 percent after 10 heat acclimation exposures. “In terms of competitive cycling, 7 percent is a really big increase and could mean that cyclists could use this approach to improve their performance in cooler weather conditions,” said Lorenzo. However, the heat exposures must be in addition to the athletes’ normal training regimen.

quote:

Heat acclimation improves the body’s ability to control body temperature, improves sweating and increases blood flow through the skin, and expands blood volume allowing the heart to pump more blood to muscles, organs and the skin as needed.

However the differnce in Temperature is not that great in the Tex, La, Miss, Bama and Fla

Month A&m LSU Bama U of Fla Ole Miss
Aug 96 93 92 90 91
Sept 91 89 87 87 85
Oct 81 81 77 81 75
Nov 71 80 67 74 65

The big difference is being use to humidity. Having your body used to it is less likely to get dehydrated and staying hydrated during a game,

I guess there is a reason the PAC 12 & BIG don't want to come down & play

Does this mean Texas is more hot and more humid than the rest?

No. In fact College station is north of Houston and Houston is almost exactly west of BR,

There is no way College Station as humid. It can be 100% humidity and 100 degrees in BR. I don't think a few degrees makes that much difference.

We are almost the same latitude - ~30.6 vs ~30.4.

Houston is ~29.

Gainesville is the furthest south at ~29.6

And, 1 degree of latitude is ~69 miles.

I still remember the LSU-Appalachian State game that started at 10 Am. on a hot August day(moved up because of Hurricane Gustav)

I think some people had to be escorted out for heat related issues, and everyone got free water..Must have been 96 with 80% humidity and not a cloud in the sky

The A&M/Fresno St. game a few years ago was pretty brutal. Longest, hottest game I have ever been to. It was played in September and was around 98 outside with no wind, and if I remember right, the announcer came on and said it was 120 down on the field. I'm sure the players had a good time down there slugging it out.
