re: How about bo pelini?

I do not want to get into any argument about Aranda.

But I wondered why no one brought up Pelini.

FYI Last year Aranda had him come to BR to show Aranda and the staff how to defend the RPO and the spread offense.

I know things change and game times are driven by TV.

But there is a point about tradition.

It is only with the advent of ESPN and the SEC Network that other SEC teams play at night. Until then most, including Alabama played during the day. The only time other teams played at night if there was a double header, like the 2 Mississippi teams playing in Jackson.

LSU played all its games at night. The Tradition started because Tulane played during the day. LSU played at night to give the New Orleans fans a chance to get to BR. There was even a train that came from NO and stopped at the old golf course and returned to NO. This was also one of the reasons for the night games. (Boy to be on that train in 1958)

So night games have been a tradition at LSU for a long time before Alabama and the rest of the SEC and should be respected just like the other teams traditions.

BTW back then there was only 1 game on TV. It was during the day. Bama didn't complain about day games then.

Also speaking of tradition, why didn't LSU get to wear white, on Saturday. That is a tradition. But we were told we had to wear a dark color because Vandy was wearing light grey
I did not read the whole posts.

But no one ever discusses that property taxes by law have to go up. The $75,000 homestead exemption does not apply to municipalities. It only applies to un incorporated portions of Parishes.

Art VII Section 20.(A)(9) dealing with the Homestead exemption States:

(9) This exemption shall not extend to municipal taxes. However, the exemptions shall apply (a) in Orleans Parish, to state, general city, school, levee, and levee district taxes and (b) to any municipal taxes levied for school purposes.

The proposed area of St. George is in the un incorporated area of the Parish. Once it is incorporated it becomes a municipality and the homestead exemption does not apply.

You start paying property taxes on the first dollar not the $75,001 dollar of your property taxes.

What don't you understand. It is a losing case for LSU,

They will have to pay the plaintiff. They will have to pay the plaintiff's attorney fees (which will probably be over $1 million) and pay LSU's attorneys (which will probably be the same amount. That's at least $2 million.

Since it is the Athletic Department that is at fault and made the stupid decision to disregard the law, I wouldn't be surprised the powers that be make the Athletic Department pay and not the university or State.

$2 million loss to Athletic Department to make some people feel good on something that has nothing to do with football
quote:

Your conflating a 60's men's club with the oldest religion in the world

Christianity is not the oldest religion in the world.

Judaism is older by centuries and Hinduism is probably also.

What some people fail to realize is Judaism and the Muslim faith both worship pray to the same God the Creator, which is God the Farther in Christianity,

It is the Christians who pray and worship a different God, Three Persons in One God, the Father,(Creator), the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Sprit.

Judaism and Muslim faiths acknowledge Jesus as a Prophet. They simply do not recognize Jesus as God or the Son of God
The Constitution says the State can't make someone put in ear buds to make you feel good about praying to a God they don't believe in,

What people fail to grasp is the Constitution protects the minority from the majority.

Just like the majority can't take away your guns, or shut up, the majority can't make someone pray.
It will be stopped and it has nothing to do with progressive conservative fight like people try to make it. It is a Constitutional issue.
LSU is a state agency. The Constitution prohibits the Federal government and states from establishing a religion.
This was done so that the government could not make its citizens pray in a certain way and force them to profess certain religious beliefs. (This is a deep seated issue and right in English law that took decades if not centuries to resolve. Think in terms of Olivier Cromwell, Puritans)
Now when you pray at a state sponsored (LSU) football game, to Jesus as God, you have established a religion that recognizes Jesus as God. (I am not debating whether He is or isn’t. I personally believe He is. Notice the capitalization when I refer to him.)
Now if you have some persons in Tiger Stadium are Jewish, they do not believe Jesus is god but a prophet.
If you say a prayer to Jesus as God, you are violating their Constitutional rights. The State has established a religion that says Jesus is God and forcing them to profess beliefs that is contrary to the Jewish beliefs.
A moment of silence does not violate the Constitutional provisions. You can pray to what ever God you want, the Trinity, Jesus, Yahweh, Alla, Buddah, Zeus, Thor, or just sit there thinking I wish the game would start.
Another non constitutional thought is people are paying their money to buy tickets. A lot of them may think it is BS and don’t want to pray or don’t think it is appropriate.
There are a lot of people who don’t believe in God, don’t believe in organized religion, or don’t give a damn about religion and praying. Just think about all the people that don’t go to church on Sunday.
If there was no prayer at the last home game, I am sure there won’t be one at the next. It is an easy lawsuit to win and LSU has to pay the damages and the attorneys.
One final thought on all this mandatory prayer or trying to make people pray. Isn’t this what the Shria law, the Talaban and ISIS try to do. The government makes you pray their way.
I was on the Athletic Council and had a few classes with Pete the second semester of Pete’s senior year. He stopped coming to class after basketball season (Everyone knew he would be the number one pick.)

Back then if you missed 3 classes they could kick you out of school. LSU did that to Pete. (If I was going to make what he was I probably would have stopped also.)

At the Athletic meeting to approve the 11th game they asked us to approve the letters for basketball. Pete wasn’t on the list because he was kicked out of school. They really wanted to give him the letter but couldn’t because of the rules. It took about 3 seconds to vote to override them and give him his letter.

On another matter I can believe the part about Brady. I remember the last game that Pete’s son was on the team. LSU was up by like 30 points. It was a CBS game. Brady cleared the bench for everyone but Pete’s son. The student body was going crazy.

What a a hole.

So if some peoples logic is correct, you would hire Jordan Jefferson before Peyton Manning. That is smart. Thanks for clearing that up. very flawed reasoning

No I would not hire Payton on principle. Don't know if Jefferson is qualified.

I am not particularly a LSU fan (don’t be confused by my handle. A friend who is a LSU fan introduced me to Tigerdroppings thus the name). I have not posted much (for some that seems to be a criterion for posting and I don’t care what you think or say.

I used to enjoy reading the board for real information, but now it is nothing but bickering and wisecrack comments. It has become totally useless.

Most of you guys are idiots. I think half of you are not really LSU fans. I think a huge number of you don’t know the real world or anything about college sports. Most of you just want to criticize what someone says or ridicule a poster and not offer any information or add anything to the conversation.

You criticize our coaches (DB coach, line coach), our players (most recently a true freshman quarter back in his first start comparing him to red shirt freshmen who have started games and practiced with the first team), make comments about recruits parents (most memorable someone’s mother) and expect recruits to come to LSU. Saban was right LSU people never have any thing positive only negative.

But on the jobs for players leaving the state, Ruffin was right. I do business all over the country. It is not just athletes. A&M oil executives hire A&M grads, Walmart execs hire Arkansas grads to work in management (no comment about clerks or people working at stores), a Harvard grad will hire a Harvard grad. This is true even if they did not play sports.

Do you really believe Landon Collins girlfriend’s mother would still be working for a school board in Alabama, Sean Tuohy’s wife going to let him hire an ex Tennessee player to work at one of his Taco Bells or an Auburn Alum is going to hire a Bama player.

Maybe that’s what’s wrong with LSU recruiting and LSU in general, there is no loyalty. Kids need to know you turn your back on LSU don’t look for help later. People need to think and let it be known, if they have to choose between a LSU grad and someone else, I am picking the LSU grad. I know LSU grads have a great education, character and will work.

Anyone who says anything else or cites any statistics is not a LSU fan and not true Louisianan.

Really who would a plant manager or customer in Louisiana or LSU grad rather go to lunch or play golf with, Jarvis Landry or Julio Jones. I know there are exceptions for Super Bowl rings and pros from you city, but they better not be around the week of and after LSU Bama.
quote:

I say the pending NCAA hammer is a major factor.

I think may be part of it. He is trying to run a program within the unwritten NCCA rules. But the BAMA boosters are committing violations and he can't control them.

I can't remember who the BAMA player was last year, but if got paid prior to the Championship game BAMA will have to forfeit the game as USCw had to.

Don't think the other commissioners are not complaining about what is going on there. Ohio State (Big 10) Duke (ACC) USCw (PAC12).

One final thought Texas runs the Big 12. Saban will have more control over scheduling, refs, etc then at Bama
I have been thinking this for a while.

I know there is SEC bias on the rant. But why do people think a non SEC Champion will make the playoffs over a Conference Champ. I know it is only a consideration, but I have a problem with people from other conferences or areas of the country doing this on any kind of regular basis. If it does, the other Commissioners will step in.

Also a Saban 1 loss Texas team will have all the glitz it needs to get into the playoffs over a non SEC Champion. (TV market, Texas reputation, Saban etc)
It was said several time Texas has all the money it wants. The Bama people never understood this. I have clients there and do a lot of business in Houston. They donate whole wings to hospitals, schools, etc. There are subdivisions in Houston and I am sure Dallas, Austin, San Antonio that the property taxes each year are more than the average salary in Louisiana, Bama and several other states.

They make Louisiana and Alabama look poor, like they are.

I have been saying if Texas wanted to make the offer larger than public, they just have to get together 10 oil guys and put Saban in 10 oil deals as a carried working interest (he doesn't pay, The expenses come out of the income from the well. This is done a lot in oil deals) for 1 or 2 % and he could make $1million off each deal. That's $10million per year. It continues each year while there is production. Do that 5 times and figure the amount he would make.

Also think about how much Saban can make doing TV ads in Dallas and Houston, 2 of the top 8 markets in the US, Not to mention Austin and San Antonio.

Remember when Benson bought the Saints, the money was loaned to him by a lady from San Antonio who became his partner. He bought her out a few years back,

Last year or the year before an apartment complex in Houston went into Bankruptcy. Spinosa (the same person that developed Perkins Row was the promoter on the complex,) Saban was a partner personally liable on the debt. I think he guaranteed part of the bank note. It was $10 million. (you can check the Bankruptcy records in Houston). However the bank never took any action against Saban.

FYI a Bankruptcy of a partnership does not stop the creditors from suing or collecting from the partners or anyone who guaranteed the debt,

At the time there was talk of Saban going to Texas and speculation Texas boosters had bought the note to keep Saban from having to pay.

Maybe the deal was cut then.

Think about this for awhile. Mack at that time was going to be President of the College Football Coaches Association this year. To be President you have to be an active coach. This maybe why Texas allowed him to stay on even if the deal was cut with Saban. Being President of the Association is an honor and I doubt Texas would deny Mack this honor. There can only be what maybe 20 living past presidents at anytime

If you remember LSU did the same with Coach McClendon. LSU let him stay one more year because he was going to be President of the Association. The only difference they announced what was going to happen and why.
The scheduling and what goes on in the office affects all the teams in the SEC. How would Ark fans feel if the beat Bama, and lose to Fla and another west team. Bama does not lose to Ky & Tenn or any other west team.

Bama goes to the championship game because it only has one loss. Ark stays home. But if it had played Tenn and not Fla like it was supposed to, and wins it would be in Atlanta not Bama

And don't hand me that BS you have to win the games. That's right you do. But some games are easier and don't take the toll on the teams like others,
Youv'e got to be kidding if you think Bama can match Texas, I am having trouble thinking of another fanbase that is as wealthy. Hell they UT fans could put him in a few oil deals each year that would top serveral million. Not to mention TV deals in Texas due to its size.

Also he could dominate the BIG 12 every year. Since football is going to a playoff, he would be assured of 1 of the 4 spots. A spot is not a sure bet in the SEC.
I was talking purely from a financial prospective in the 50s & 60s of when a team went to play at LSU, Fl and Tenn. I did not mean to limit it to just Bama.

Back then they split the gate. Also there was no sharing of TV revenue, and there was only 1 game a week on TV.

Here is a break down of the on Campus stadium capacities during the period I was surprised that LSU had the largest stadium then.

Yrs LSU Tenn Fla GA BAMA OLE MISS MISS STATE AU
53-61 68000 46400 40100 36000 25000 34000 35000 34500
62-65 67500 52200 46100 36000 43000 34000 35000 35000
66-73 67500 64400 62800 59200 60000 37500 35000 35000

Here is an example Ole Miss with had a capacity of 34,000. If tickets were $10.00 the total gate was $340,000. They had to split the gate. So they kept only $170,000 and the same amount went to the other SEC team.

But when the played LSU in BR they split $680,000 ($10 X 68000) or they received $340,000. This is 2 times more than they received if they played LSU or any other team at home. In fact it is the same as their total gate.

Back then it was clearly a big payday to play LSU at home. Remember the Sugar Bowl only held 12,000 more than Tiger Stadium at 80,0000

The problem has always been the people on here want LSU to have this wide open offense that passes almost every down. The problem is that doesn’t usually win championships.

I agree as any head coach Les probably in certain situations says we need to do this or that. (Run time off. Let’s not throw we don’t want to give them the ball back etc)

He does not carry around a play sheet. Every time I have seen him use one he has to ask someone to get it for him. If he is calling the plays as you think he’s genus.

BTW contrary to what a lot of people here think LSU passed around 40% last year. My problem is when they did it.
It was just a comment on how back before the big TV deals, certain stadiums generated more money for SEC teams than others when they played there.

quote:

The SEC brand has really suffered being in Birmingham so far. I mean just look at the state of the SEC right now. We better move it away before the whole conference goes under.

I am not saying that. I am just saying to increase exposure it may need to be somewhere else. If you are a potential advertiser or someone thinking about doing a piece on the SEC where would you rather go B'ham and eat at Aurby's or some 5 star resturant and stay in a 5 star hotel. (Same for BR, Oxford, Aubrun, Starkville).

The main point is being able to attrack qulified people and not Bama hacks.
Color Wheel

See above. Yellow (LSU Gold is complementary to Purple and as noted they are historical.

What is the history behind the other team colors
