Petrino actually isn't a bad idea for them at all. If Mizzou is willing to take the initially public backlash, he probably has pretty strong ties in that area already. I sure wouldn't mind Mizzou stealing an Arkansas recruit here and there.

I don't know if the Mizzou label of 'Basketball School' is right or not but it doesn't matter. Like A&M, Mizzou needs to shed some old stuff. A&M is going to escape UT's shadow and build their own. Mizzou can do the same thing.

Sure but like I said, there needs to be a pretty stiff penalty put into the contract.

I wouldn't worry too much about this one. Despite all the winning he did in his last two years here, he wasn't very well liked by the high school coaches.

I don't think we would. I could be wrong, but I think if we're hiring a new coach, we'll look for someone who will value what we already have - a family atmosphere, pretty clean program, total-person stuff. I can't see Petrino fitting in well at Mizzou, he's not a match for the culture.

I don't disagree with you at all, but whose shadow does Mizzou need to escape?

That's a pretty good point, especially since Mizzou is now on a new road.
Okay, Petrino = out.
What about Hudspeth?

Yes. Get him now.

For Mizzou, just things past in general. They are here to stay. If they can get competitive and other things equal out, the games with UF/UGA/UT/SCar/A&M will be big. Much different than B12 when OU and UT was pretty much it.

I don't know much about him, but from what I do know, he'd definitely be worth talking to.
Alden has a type that he looks for. He likes guys who are family oriented, process-focused and run a clean program. The other guy he looked at seriously when he hired Pinkel was Mark Richt. He'll look for someone in that "good guy" mold. Hudspeth would definitely be worth talking to.
I just hope that, if we end up looking for a new coach, that it'll be someone with strong ties in the south. No west-coast or rust belt types that don't know what recruiting the south is like.

Hudspeth played at Delta State and coached almost exclusively in the South.

From what I know of him, Mizzou might be a good fit. The program is solid, with facilities that are being upgraded and strong support from donors and the AD. Our fans are patient, and know that building something good takes time, so there wouldn't be pressure to get 10 wins in his first year like at some schools. Columbia is a great place for young families, with really good schools and lots of opportunities for kids. And we like to do things the right way here.
I think it would be a great place for a young coach looking to prove himself, whether it's a HC ready to go to a bigger school, or a top-level assistant ready to run his own show.
