As of June, how do you see the Secondary shaping up?

CB - Deion Belue

This is a lock. Started all 14 games last year, is healthy, seems to be making the second year jump.

CB - John Fulton

Not that we'll be in base much anyway, but I still think John will start over Geno. Not that it matters, as I Geno will likely be the Star and Fulton will be outside in extra DB situations.

Star - Geno Smith

Got experience last year, best man for the job.

S - Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix

Lock. 5 INTs last year, ballhawk, great in coverage. Just hoping we don't do silly things like blitzing him, at least not often. He can take away a deep half of the field.

S - Vinnie Sunseri

Currently seems like Vinnie will start at S, won't play Star. That's good. I see him being the Money and Landon Collins playing deep with HaHa in Dime.

Money - Vinnie Sunseri

See above.

As for Jarrick Williams, Jai Miller, and Nick Perry, I think Jarrick and Jai could both see time at Money if it's an extremely important coverage situation and Vinnie could be a liability. I think Perry and Collins may platoon as the Dime Safety, Perry, at least based off of the Spring, seems to have improved.

I can see us playing a 3-2-6 in most of the TAMU game with Vinnie playing close to the line of scrimmage

I think Landon will seize his opportunity and be the full time starter with HaHa by mid season, possibly sooner. He's a 10/10 athlete

I'd say sooner, Sunsuri's speed is a liability back there.

I hope he's a full time starter with HaHa by mid first quarter of the VT game. I never want to see Vinnie cover anyone besides a slow TE in man ever again.

I think this will be one of the more talented secondaries we've had under Saban; the only issue is the experience. I'm not predicting anything like the 2011 defense is going to happen, but 2014, it's very well possible. Especially if Haha returns

don't think we lack experience. Most of the players mentioned above are juniors or seniors except for a couple of sophomores who have had a ton of PT. Looks like we are 7-8 deep

No defense will ever be like the 2011 defense. Ever. That defense was stacked all the way down to the 4 deep. There's got to be at least 12 future first rounders from that roster. But, I support the Landon Collins argument. Best overall safety since early mark Barron

Experience won't be a huge issue. We're returning more quality players there than we have in a long time.

I listed the starters for the BCS title game. C.J. Mosley and DeQuan Menzie both started throughout the 2011 season. Ed Stinson as well.

Not that it really matters, but Menzie and Dre were the starters at corner. Dee came in to play Star when we went to Nickel. We started the BCS game vs LSU in Base D.

I just felt that DQ deserved to be listed with the other guys, as he did start the title game.

Actually, didn't DQ get more snaps at Star that year than Dee? Like Menzie moved down and Dee played outside?

I need to go back and watch some games from that year. It's been a while.

21-0 will be a good start.

Maybe so, LOL!!! Me too. Definitely a good time to break out some old game recordings. I just remember Dee being the 3rd corner...

Yeah, I'm sure both logged time at Star, just not sure who did it more. Gonna get some lube and turn on the games.

IIRC, Menzie played Star in nickel (played opposite Dre in base). I kept expecting him to put up good sack and QB pressure numbers like Javy did we never blitzed him as much as we did Javy.

I don’t believe Jai Miller will ever see the field for alabama unless its in blow out action...Jai is using bama to get a lil experience under saban (this will look good on his resume when he signs up for the NFL draft next year, the guy is almost 30), getting back in football shape, practicing against the best college players...I don’t believe he will ever see the field his sole purpose to make the league is through Alabama practice under saban.
