I understand the article.
But he didn't report the other girl who also got pulled over at the same time.
So yes... he's out to get UGA athletes.
He's not checking the online jail logs for UGA students. He's not looking for family members.

AJC hates UGA flat out. Everyone can't wait to write the next article about a UGA player getting into trouble even if its about a damn license. I did way worse at UGA and never made the papers.
Lets just say I frequented the APD slammer

Only point he makes that I believe is that if he doesn't report it someone else will.

I read your comments on the story too. This a retarded argument. He doesn't get paid to report on the students, or family members, or the other girl that got pulled over at the same time. His JOB is to write about UGA football. Good, bad, or indifferent. While I don't like Chip, you just made yourself look stupid with this argument. I would delete the post...

So let me get this straight, cause it just don't seem logical to me:
1. AJC is populated by grads of the UGA journalism school.
2. Lots of the target audience for the AJC is UGA fans.
3. AJC hates UGA.
4. ??????????????
5. Profit.
Got it.

Honest question.
If this happened in Gainesville or Tuscaloosa, assuming the laws are the same, would an arrest have been made and if so, would it have stuck?
This is an opinion obviously.

Not wearing a seatbelt? Seriously, what type of a collision would it take to jar this monster out of the car...
Also, if he only has a learners permit then I guess they're going to arrest you. I've been pulled in the past for stuff like this but was always given the chance to provide my license, reg, proof of insurance, etc. to the court to have the charges dismissed. Never arrested on a traffic violation...
Of course, this was when the cops were civil servants whose mission was to protect and serve and not the paramilitary units we have today.

No. He should have been just been issued the citations and had the car towed if he couldn't arrange for someone else to come move it. Absurd waste of resources to arrest first in this situation. I'm trying really hard to justify it in another way, but I can't - the officer just wanted the chance to search Atkins and the car.

This was on campus so they could have just let Atkins walk home and have the car towed if he couldn't get a hold of someone to come pick him up. I don't believe that he was even given the chance to do that because it was mid-afternoon so plenty of teammates/friends should have been around and able to make the quick drive.

ACCPD and UGAPD are a bunch of losers who couldn't even make it through GSC, guess this is their outlet. Whatever, I take comfort knowing that these little arrests may be the highlight of these miserable counts lives.
And I eagerly await the day the AJC fails and pussies like Carvell and Towers are looking for jobs at bleacher report
And if I left anyone else out, boo them too. Primarily mark richt, dunno what he did yet but I'm sure it was malevolent, that richt...

The course of action for Richt should be simple: bar reporters like Towers from interviews and practices. See how long the reporting of petty bullshite lasts after Towers is starved for original writing material.

One of the dumber things I've seen on here in a while.

If you wanted to run with this argument, the better way to put it is that Towers and his ilk aren't reporting traffic violations committed by members of any of the Soccer, Softball, Equestrian, Swimming, Gymnastics, etc. teams. THAT is where this issue stands out, that it's almost exclusively Football players being reported on. However, you have to also realize Towers and Co. aren't in the business of fairness.
I'm not mad that he's reporting on just football players (hell, I don't invest myself as much in the other sports as I do football).
I'm mad that he's investing more into football by way of digging up police reports and court records and writing articles on them then you or I - a completely irrational, insane message board bottom feeder - would ever care to or want to invest into the football team.
Some shite just doesn't need to be written up and talked about. Period.

I don't understand why people care.

Well his dirt digging got JHC noticed and promptly suspended for the Clemson game when there wasn't even an arrest made. It even says the UGAPD chief called Richt to tell him about it. There's another problem in the system. He wouldn't pick up the phone to tell anyone if me or you got arrested. But it's football players and he wants justice done on a non-arrest.
