Hey guys, wanted to get yal's take on a kid we signed from Alabama this past cycle.

His name is TJ Green and from every highlight film I've seen he looks like the damn truth. He's only rated a 2 star on Rivals, however, and I didn't know if any of yal knew why. Were there off-the-field issues, academics, late bloomer, etc?

Do yal know if either instate program was tracking him? Did yal just fill-up and not have room or was he never on the radar?

Thanks for the help! Also, not saying in any way shape or form we stole one from yal, just think maybe he's someone who was overlooked instate.

For anyone who hasn't seen his film I'll link it below.

Looks like a Stud to me

He's the 41st rank ATH in the state of Alabama according to 247, and is a 2* with no picture on Rivals.

I'm sorry, I don't know where you get the feeling that he's a stud.

Did you hit the link? I was just going off the film. The rankings you listed are what's so confusing. He's listed as 6'4 200lb on his profile and looks like he can fly on film.

What am I (and every other scouting service) missing? Does he play in a horrible district?

Auburn offered him late as did most everyone else. I believe he was a question to qualify and maybe he picked up football late? Kid was supposedly an Auburn fan, but I guess we offered too late and had already snubbed him.....

Yea I actually heard this as well. Apparently Harbison found him when he was at Clemson and thought he could slow play him. Clemson misses on some WRs, offers and he commits. Harbison tried to go back to him late when he was at Auburn but it didn't work.

I'm not saying he's the next Calvin Johnson, but it looks like we might've found a solid player late in the game.

There's an auburn poster here that knows the guy, IIRC... he posted in a 'sleepers of 2013' thread right before NSD.

I saw some of his highlights... he's definitely impressive. Not sure where he'll play at Clemson (safety?), but the consensus was he was much better with the ball in his hands than he was as a defender.

I definitely hope we start him at WR. We're thin at WR (7 on scholarship and we like to carry 9-10), and like you said he looks much better with the ball in his hands. We also signed a shite-ton of DBs so we got depth there. Definitely hope he starts out on offense, we need someone to replace Nuuuuuk!

He's from the same high school I graduated from a couple of years ago, so I've seen him play several times in person including a couple of games this past year. He's got a pretty good frame and decent height. He definitely has the speed and acceleration to play WR, although he's pretty raw in route running. He's probably not a guy that's going to come in and compete for playing time immediately at a school like Clemson.

It is also my opinion that he will never be a college DB. He could prove me wrong, but I don't see it. He completely lacks physicality on a play by play basis and even shies away from it at times. It should be interesting to see how he turns out.

Good stuff! I don't think anyone is expecting immediate contributions as our WRs are pretty talented right now but I think he could be an interesting guy as a RS Soph. Like you mentioned, route running seems pedestrian at the moment, but he has some explosiveness to him for sure.

The only thing I worry about with guys of his running style (major striders) is if he has the lateral quickness to get the separation necessary at the college level.

Thanks for the feedback!

He's probably not going to break anyone's ankles with his cuts, but he's quick enough to get seperation, particularly if he sharpens up his route running. It's also worth keeping in mind that he never really had a solid quarterback throwing to him, and was playing in an offense that was outdated decades ago.

I wanted him but wasn't upset that Clemson pulled him. If our WRs we sign qualify I am not worried

Try watching the film instead of looking at his recruiting profile.

No off the field issues and won't have any with him. Could definitely try harder in the classroom but grades shouldn't be an issue. He spent almost his entire summer playing AAU basketball and missed out on the camp circuit so that's why he was such an unknown. It also didn't help that he was in a very run-oriented offense. He went to one camp at Auburn over the summer and ran the fastest time there, got the attention of the old staff.

The new staff offered him but it was a conditional offer, probably because we already had several WR's committed.

Like sammy said, he's got great speed and a good frame. Route running isn't the best but he's a kid that can pick things up fairly quick. You don't want him as a safety. Isn't a smart DB. Mistimes jumps, takes bad angles, and always goes for the knockout while ducking his head. If your staff puts him at WR you've got yourself a kid with a ton of potential.

Watch his film instead of acting like a jackass.

You summed it up pretty well. I would have liked to have had him at Auburn, but it's still cool just having a kid from Sylacauga get a football scholarship to a major program. It's been a while since that happened. He certainly wasn't in an offense that would help him as a wide receiver, so it's a little tough to judge exactly how much potential he has there. He certainly isn't a DB by any stretch. WR is where he can make an impact.

the first fist fight I ever got in was with a kid named TJ Green. I told my dad that the kid at the bus stop was picking on me in the mornings. My old man showed me how to make a fist and told me that if he does it again, punch him right in his glasses. And I did, I was 7.

thats my CSB, but its not the same kid.

Played for my kids HS team. I don't think he went to any of the camps and so was a low radar kind of guy. Has the speed of a WR and the size of a safety. You guys got a diamond in the ruff. Also had a sprained wrist and had to sit the first 3 games of this year
