Can he be the first true defensive player to win the Heisman?

Can he get some relatives to die for him before a big game?

He could be the first pure defenseman to go into outer space.

If he puts up 20+ sacks yes.

He's probably got the best chance. Has a lot of hype heading into the season and isn't the only player on the dline that needs attention.

He'll probably need 20+ sacks, 30+tackles for loss, 5-ish forced fumbles and a TD or two.

And of course a "Heisman play" similar to The Hit

Is he the best player in college football? Without a doubt. But the Heisman goes to the player with the best numbers not the best overall player.

Put me down as someone that doesn't think the heisman should be for defensive players.

Now he should most definitely win the Lombardi Award, or the Chuck Bednarik Award for the best defensive player.

I don't think he will.

But anything could happen.

Murray vs Clowney in the first week of September will determine which one wins the Heisman next year. Based on history, it's not looking good for Murray. But people won't remember last year or the year before, they'll remember that game, and what Clowney does. That is going to be one very very hyped game in Athens. Booked your hotel yet?

To be honest one of the best things to happen for Clowney's Heisman campaign happened on that monster hit vs Michigan. He was already well known in the SEC but that hit made him well known in the Sports world. Hell I just today he is still the reigning 17X "Best of the Best" on Sportscenter for that hit.

The more coverage = the better when it comes to the Heisman.

First step is creating a fake girlfriend, then she has to die a horrible death a week before the voting.

Nope, he'll probably not have as good of a season next year, due to the hype. No shot IMO.

I won't believe it until he is a haircut.

He's gotta have more impressive number than sack totals. Multiple forced fumbles and INTs for TDs, and in big games. How do you have a "Heisman moment" against a spare Michigan running back? You can't. It has to be against the Johnny Football's of the world.

The recent trend is to at least invite a defensive player - Suh, Mathieu, Te'o.

My guess is Clowney will be invited. Everyone will know he is the best player but he still won't win.
