The only good thing "Bama" is good for outside the state (nation) of Alabama is that it fits well on a T-shirt that also has the word F_ _K on it.
Nonetheless I will pulling for the Tide come NC time. Whats one more NC for Bama anyway. If ND gets one we will have to hear about it for 20 yrs from the broadcasters...

One is a NATIONAL program.
The definitive answer is that one team in the BCSNC has its own national TV contract and one doesn't. I let the listeners figure out which is which.

Too bad they'll only be watching for a half. This game is gonna be worse than last year.

The three largest fanbases are Texas, Bama, and ND

Na regional. There are LSU bars in NYC ,La and England, doesn't mean we are national. Bama is regional. There aren't kids growing up in Cali that are wearing Bama jackets.

It sounds more like you're the one who needs to get over us. Alabama is a national brand, really isn't debatable.
They really aren't. In the early 2000's no one talked about Bama. Even when USC and ND suck they are talked about. There are not kids in Washington , Oregon, and Maine wearing Bama gear. Come on. You realize you can be a top 5 ALLTIME football program AND NOT be national.

No one has been talking about ND for 20 years.......Bama fans are everywhere and to say Bama is not a national brand, as much as any college football team can be, is just more butthurt nonsense from Bama haters

It's comical that you think bama gets the same kind of coverage relative to sport regardless of record that ND, USC, the Dallas Cowboys, NYY, LA Lakers, etc do. Absolutely comical.
This. Bama is on the same level as Oklahoma
Again the top national CFB brands are ND,USC Mich. it doesn't mean Bama isn't a blue blood. They just aren't on those level.

Michigan and Oklahoma have #1 and #3 winning percentage all time and aren't really national. A debate could be had about Texas and tOSU.

I never said Bama was like the Yankees or Lakers whatever.
I'd equate it to Kentucky basketball.

Bama is the most watched team in CFB and sells more merchandise than any team not named Texas. ESPN is our bitch and the voters give us reacharounds.
LOL at all the asshurt LSU fans trying to pretend otherwise, when on the tiger rant there's nonstop whining about Alabama's media darling status. You people say one thing here and another there.

Here's a list..., also another one.
Thanks for posting. It's pretty interesting how different those 2 lists are.
On another note, one thing that may be glossed over in the discussion about "national brand" is not just a program's "fan base"--which I assume huge Big Ten schools like Ohio State and Penn St to have the largest -- but also classic programs that almost every one who isn't a fan "loves to hate".
I'd gather that, after Notre Dame, Alabama is pretty high on that list along with other historical powers like USC etc . . .

I hope you're joking. Every single year people talk about ND. About whether they suck or not. Now they haven't been relevant in national title talk. Make no mistake though, when all the conference commissioners say down to talk about a playoff, only ONE TEAM had a say. It was ND. Also, this shouldn't bother Bama fans that people don't think they are a national brand. I'd much rather be the most dominant football program ( which Bama has been the last 4-5 years)than the program with the most fan across America. I think it has a lot to do with northerner a mentality too. Northerners don't like the south. So kids up north , in rural outskirts ,aren't gonna grow up loving Bama.

I've lives in 5 diff states and have been to 42 diff states. Bama isn't a national brand. It's ok though. No team from the south is a national brand. That's why their is SEC solidarity , because northerners and western people don't like southerners. They just don't. There are LSU bars all over the world , that doesn't mean we are a national brand. I have no problem calling Bama's 2008-present run , one of the top 5 ALLTIME runs. So it's not biased. Us southern teams just for have national appeal to northerners and western fans. I place Bama on the same level as Oklahoma as far as brand. Just a notch below
National. LSU is only a state brand.
National. LSU is only a state brand.

What? DB , Michigan is def a national brand.

If we are not a national brand, then why did 60 Minutes just run a fluff piece on Bama calling it the program everyone is trying to emulate?....Michigan, a so called national brand, came off as looking 2nd tier in that piece.
I agree ND is more of a national brand than Bama and kids in Brooklyn or LA or not gong to start sporting Bama gear no matter how many titles we win...but Bama is known worldwide to the extent people give a shite about college football....Bama is as well known as Michigan, USC, tOSU, Penn State.....Bama put southern football on the map and the powerhouse that the SEC today is in good part due to what Bama accomplished on the national stage in the 20s, 30s, 40s, and the Bryant era....if you can't see that, then I can't help you.

I'm not reading this whole thread.
But the only national brands in College Football are:
Notre Dame, Alabama, USC, Ohio St. Michigan, Texas and Oklahoma.
Alabama is the only CFB National Brand in the South.
Notre Dame and Alabama are the most tradition-rich
out of the National Brands in CFB.
I'd give the nod to Alabama b/c they have the most Major Poll National Titles.
