I want to be excited about this hire.

Comparably he's a better coach than Les miles at the same school. We competed with them for a lot of recruits under petrino so the players we have now will work in his system.

He sucks at defense worse than Petrino

True, but I didn't want Miles either.

Fair point.

he's not JLS?
He's Petrino w/o the whore drama. Personally, I think he will recruit better than Petrino due to personality alone.

I didn't either. Gundy is a good hire, he's a much better recruiter than petrino. OSU frustrated the hell out of me when during the offseason following recruiting. He has lots of texas ties, attractive offense to play in and his defenses were more prone to create turnovers than ours ever dreamed of being.

Wally Hall is reporting its not gundy. Announcement to be made today.

petrino is a better play caller but pound for pound gundy is a better skill position teacher. not just WR, he's had a first round QB, he has a few RB's in the league, his O line's are lights out.

He recruits the exact same players.
He knows all of the coaches, all of the players and now can offer the sec.
He will score points, which Arkansas fans crave, no matter what the tell you.
We will be in games.
The likelihood of him leaving is minimal, he's already been home.
He's one of a select few coaches who have won a bcs game while being in a major conference.

that's one thing I am hoping for a massive improvement of. our O line. it has been shite-tastic under Petrino and Klenakis

Very solid hire.
BCS Bowl winner, young coach, recruits Tejas and has a personality between Nutt and Petrino which includes X's and O's of Petrino's level.

I just don't think his overall resume is that great. I doubt anyone would want him if it wasn't for the 2011 season.
He has won 7 or less games in half of his seasons as HC. Seems to struggle vs. the tougher B12 teams (Oklahoma).
That along with the ridiculous tan and the "I'm a man" tirade scares me away from him.

What do you consider a major conference? Just the SEC and B10?

You have me down as picking BD just in case this Gundy thing falls through right? I think I picked the 10th for the announcement, but that's just semantics really, we all know I was good for it.

who besides him WOULD be better? Realistic possibilities that is...
Nick Saban isn't coming. know what i mean?

I would rather take a chance on an up and comer like Dykes.
I also think Butch Davis would be more likely to win an SEC championship.

He's at OSU... He's their second winningest coach and will be the winningest if he isn't our coach next year.

OU game is a rivalry so OSU always gets their best. OSU also will always play second fiddle in state and out of state to oklahoma. It's a texas Texas a&m type scenario except with a much smaller recruiting base to pull from.

Kids like to play for him. He actually cares about the players.
