Ryan Swope the next Wes Welker?

Do you guys think he can be the caliber slot receiver in the NFL that Wes Welker is? It of course will depend a lot on who drafts him, and where he ends up if he can get a real contract with a solid team. Wes started out with Dolphins where he didn't have much of a chance to really shine, but look at him since he's been with the Pats. Swope may not be the kick returner Wes was, but damn, the kid can play slot receiver.
What round do you think he'll get drafted in?

in the last 3 rounds probably.

Swope is more straight line speed than shiftiness. Don't think he will be nearly as good as welker in nfl. Will be solid, not great.

He'll be a Sunday selection.

I'd have to disagree with this. He's very shifty.

Swope is pretty friggin good, seems to alwaays find a place to be open and catches about anything around him. I'd imagine Sumlin is working furiously on figuring out how to get him open in the 7-15 yard range for Saturday. He might have a big day if your other WR's step up to take some heat off.

I might shite a brick if Swope went to the Dolphins ... Tannehill to Swope! He would probably be one of the top receivers on their roster immediately.

Davone Bess and Brian Hartline say hi.

Welker is an underneath receiver that finds space. He's Darren Sproles without the return and rushing ability.
Swope is nothing like Welker. If he were, you guys would've had him in the slot running some underneath stuff on outs from the slot and stick routes to the side of vertical release go's or streaks.
Sumlin/Kingsbury are going use to skill positions however they can. Swope would be there if he could excel there.
Don't look for a similar skill set in the pro ranks if there isn't one in the collegiate ranks.

Huh? How do you think Swope is used? He's a tall inside receiver. He will be an inside receiver in a West Coast offense at the next level.

This. They aren't really similar players other than being white slot recievers. Welker is quick and shifty, and Swope has excellent straight line speed.

I think the comparison is that both play the slot, both have great hands, and (most important) both have the knack to just find themselves open in the field. Whether that is from "shiftiness" or "straight line speed" is irrelevant. Both are open when you need them and neither is a guy who is going to win a fight with a DB and get the ball at the high point.

Its racist to compare a white wide receiver to another white wide receiver.
Just like Warren Moon said that its racist to compare Cam to other black QBs.

And both are tough as iron when it comes to taking hits across the middle.

Not enough grit. Also Jew-Welkah (Julian Edelman) is already the next Welker. Swope could be the next Julian Edelman.

You are racist and dumb.

Ryan Swope is like Wes Welker except he is faster.
Those aren't my words, they are Kliff Kingsbury's who played with Welker and coaches Swope. Personally I think that's coach speak to an extent, Welker is one of the shiftiest guys I've very seen on a football field and I dreaded it when A&M punted to him. I just wanted them to kick it out of bounds for a 30 yarder rather than risk it. Both of them played the role of the "Zone buster" inside receiver in the Air Raid and both are very effective at it.
As for Swope, I see him being a 3rd or 4th Rounder depending on how he does at the combine. He's had a few concussions which is going to scare off some people. He is an excellent route runner though with a great attitude and has succeeded in Sherman's pro style system as well as this Air Raid system. If he can run sub 4.5 at the combine he will go 2nd Round or so. If he goes 4.6 he will be a 5th rounder or so. I do think he will make an NFL roster and play in the league though, kid is just a worker.
