Somebody has to have the fewest penalties per game. Why not us?

If everything was equal, then I would agree that penalties may be being called unfairly. The fact of the matter is that things are not equal and coaching matters a lot whether that be avoiding or enticing penalties. I have no doubt that Saban and his staff teach our players how to draw penalties because it is to our advantage to do so. For example, they could teach defensive lineman a certain technique with their hands inside that is equally effective while making holding calls more evident.

The SEC's League Director of Officials is a bama grad. Fact. In that capacity he has regular wkly meetings with each crew. Fact. Use it to make any point you want. But, when that fact is combined with the fact that the league's office is in Birmingham, why is it then not common sense that conspiriacy theories pop up so often? Saban is a great college football coach. No question. But to relate the fact that bama went over 10+ games without being called for holding, when as the saying goes,"holding could be called on every play", to his coaching greatness, is a major stretch. He is known as a DB coach, not an OL coach.

You do know that he just got that job. Don't you? For years it was Rogers Redding who held that position.

I'm glad Saban is getting the penalties turned around for us. 7 against Mich and Arky were inexcusable. After Arky, they went to 3, and down to 2 last week. I expect 2 or just 1 next week against Mizzou.

I want to believe Alabama is really disciplined, but I watch their games and they get away with a lot of seemingly obvious penalties, particularly in the holding category.
REC Brah.....now Fall Back
Its funny though...even by the OP's original post Saban his last 2 years at LSU was:
2004 / 3 / LSU #5
2003 / 4 / LSU #7
...so I guess the refs were biased back then as well? Obviously the he started doing something different to reduce the penalties a team as committing. So you are saying the refs loved Saban's 2007 7-6 team so much too?

So, when Alabama was down and actually could've used beneficial calls more than against Ole Miss last week they didn't get them?
Seems there's a very mysterious bias towards better teams getting fewer penalties.

Hey, does anyone remember when Mathieu made that great football play, picture perfect technique, and Kirkpatrick gave himself a concussion after he tripped on his own feet? THEY CALLED THAT A PENALTY. HOLDING? HOLDING? What the?

When we play SEC games we are usually screwed at least once in the game by a bad call. It usually is due to the replay booth believe it or not. Against Alabama, We have about 2-3 calls per game. It's just not even funny anymore. I'm not one to complain about officials, but when you play Alabama, it's a whole new ball game. I do not doubt for one second that they receive favorable treatment.

Holding and PF are coachable. Block in the back on ST play is coachable. If you listen to Saban you know that there is a price to be paid if you commit one of these.
On 1-9 Bama had 0 until a second teamer jumped off side on a kick at the end of the game. Saban went ape shite on the side line. It means something to Saban. A 15 yd PF is 15 yds you GIVE the other team. Some coaches act like OK. Not Saban.

Yes bro Alabama pays the SEC and the refs. UA also pays the NCAA to stay away. That's how Bama wins. :dwi:

The fact is we just don't have the athletes to compete at a high level, but our pockets are deep enough to make up for it. That make sense?

Additionally, God alters the flight path of most AJ's passes away from the defenders and into the hands of the receivers.
