As far as a competitive rivalry, it is the biggest rivalry in college sports.

Bama fans will deny it, because they think it irritates LSU fans.

Bottom line: on 11/5, the world stopped moving for 3 hours on a Saturday.

It gave CBS it's highest ratings for College Football in 22 years. LINK

It was a big game, because the teams are always competitive, and shite is on the line.

Like the opposite of the LSU/Arky "rivalry"

It is a huge game, and it is becoming a rivalry, but in the traditional sense, UT is Bama's biggest rival, followed by Auburn.

Big games, even annual big games aren't rivalries. Tradition is everything in the SEC. Bama-UT and UGA-AU are two of the most storied, tradition rich rivalries in CFB, followed closely by UA-AU. I'm sorry, but even with the recent history of the game being as big as it is, LSU-UA just isn't as big a rivalry. Is it a bigger game? Sure. For years UT-UF was a huge game, but it wasn't a bigger rivalry than TSIO. Never could be. Big match ups come and go, they are cyclical, but rivalries are forged over decades.

The third Saturday in October means nothing on the national scene. For older Bama and Vol fans I'm sure it has some meaning. Younger Vol fans see Florida as more of a rivalry than they do Bama. The last 20 years have contributed to that. It could mean something again if UT douses the dumpster fire and rebuilds with a legit coach who can actually return them to prominence. That is five years down the line minimum though.

I like how you're speaking for other fan bases. You have no clue what Vol fans think and what Bama fans think...LSU doesn't know what a rival is because they simply don't have one. I wouldn't expect you to know what it means.

4 years of LSU AND Bama success doesn't trump a century of tradition. PERIOD.

Having moved from there. . .

. . .Bama/TN is not that big with vols fans in the Knoxville/Chattanooga area.

For UT it is:

Florida

Bama
Everyone else.

I guarantee about 90% of Vol fans would rather beat Bama than Florida. You may have some that just hate Florida...but a loss against Florida may hurt a little more only b/c it's an east team, but a win against Bama would feel 100 times better.

None in East Tennessee that I met.

Well, there were 2.

But they were Auburn fans.

And I totally get what you're saying, LSU/Bama and UT/Fla is the hot match-up, kinda (kinda as in UT/UF)...but a loss against Tenn would result in wives getting beat by Bama. LSU, not so much.

Maybe in Bama.

I've never lived in Bama.

I can only speak for my time in East Tenn.

How old are you? Seriously. Under 30 and you may not have an appreciation for the history of the TSIO. I guess it might be relative to your age. Growing up, the UT-Bama game was the biggest of the year, regardless of records. I guess a younger generation, with split divisions, a championship game and not being a witness to some of that history might have a big impact on how you view rivalries.

You know, I forgot how much I hated Tennessee until I found myself cheering wildly for Florida this past weekend. About the same as rooting for Mississippi State against AU.

I don't do that against LSU. I've always liked their uniforms for some reason - actually was my second fav. team until recently.

So, LSU is still not a top rivalry . . . yet. Only because I don't have that deep-pitted disgust for them . . . yet.

Yeah, I guess you're right. We've won 7 out of last 10 and beat you at home last year. Too one-sided to be a rivalry game.

We lost roughly 8 games in a row to Tennessee between the 90s and 00s. Bama won 10 in a row before that. It didn't stop being a rivalry.

Probably older than you.

I guess Bama takes Tennessee more seriously than Tenn takes Bama.

Before the season, I rarely ever heard Bama talk. You never stopped hearing Florida talk.

I heard way more hate for UGA than Bama. I thought the rivalry was a memory, until I found this board. Bama fans are big into it. UT fans aren't.

When I talk shite to LSU fans, I am genuinely just fricking around. When I talk shite to Tennessee fans, I do it with the most sinister of intentions...
