At the end of the day. Yes. Florida is bigger to Tennessee from a divisional standpoint, in getting to Atlanta. But, Phil Fulmer made it a fricking point to beat Alabama when he got the head coaching position. Tennessee-Florida didn't become a "rivalry" until Spurrier. That is a fact.

Was there a time when LSU didn't consider Bama their biggest rival? Wasn't it Ole Miss at one point? (Not a flame I swear, I'm talking about decades ago, before OM was terrible)

Back in the day, OM and Tulane...A&M OOC. LSU doesn't have a rival in the sense of OSU/UM, UA/UT, AU/UGA, USC/ND, etc. Just the way of it.

I guess the East Tennessee/Knoxville area must be an outlier.

The only mention I ever heard in the offseason about Bama/Tenn was about how you guys were just mad that Fulmer gave up Means.

Outside of that, Florida/UGA.

Tennessee considers Bama their biggest rival, correct?
Maybe where harmonica lives.

But not when I lived in East Tenn.

Tulane before that.

LSU has been without a major rival, because the teams in the area went to shite.

I might be living in the past, projecting my view on others. I wonder if a Vol site has ever conducted a fan poll on this question?

Bama/LSU is just not a true rivalry. Both teams are really really good right now and so the passion and importance is magnified. But the history just isn't there.

They said the same thing about UF/Bama in '08 and '09. That this was the new rivalry and was bigger than any other game. Look how quickly that changed.

Let me put it this way: if LSU suddenly became terrible (not gonna happen, I know. But just go with me)the way UT is, we wouldn't give one shite about them. They would be like MSU or OM, just another opponent. But we will always hate UT no matter how unimportant they are.

Like I said. Florida/Georgia are big to Tennessee divisionally...... But as far as just "bragging rights". Alabama-Tennessee. I would argue Florida is Tennessee's 3rd biggest rival, considering Alabama and Georgia actually border the state. Georgia-Florida is bigger than Tennessee-Florida, IMO.

What does that even mean? Geographic?

Because we are obviously the greatest competitive rivalry in all of college athletics.

We are also conference and division rivals.

We also played each other for a national title.

There are plenty of factors that say "true rivalry".

Do I harbor hate for Bama? No.

Only team I have ever had a visceral disdain for, is Auburn

My guess..... it would not be close. UT/Bama in a landslide.

I don't know anyone back there that would do anything short of laugh at this.

Not trying to be harsh here, just stating what I know.

I heard no more talk there about Bama, than you'd hear in any SEC region.

That's what I would think to, but it's an assumption. Expansion and divisions may have done more damage than we realize.

When did you live in Tennessee? If it was during the 90s then yeah, you probably did hear more about Florida. Understandably so. Florida was much better than Alabama, and everyone else in the conference.

No, just Auburn and UT. And I guess some LSU fans. And it's true.

Well no shite, we didn't start playing each other annually until 92.
