Well part of being a great coach at the college level is recruiting 5 star talent.
Alabama and LSU always has 5-star talent
Mike Shula won 10 games at Bama- it aint that hard

Yes, recruiting not part of coaching. Where can I hire this 2-3 star wunderkind from?

One of the worst threads on here in a while.
1. it is a cliffhanger.
2. the answer is obvious.
3. you ask this during the middle of a gameday.

Not sure if serious. NS might be the best coach in football period. He might retire as the greatest coach of all time.

This. College football is all about recruiting, and Les and Nick are masters at it.

its not Saban or Miles- anybody can coach a bunch of 5-star talents to victory. Need to look at the guys coaching the 2 and 3-star guys and getting results.
Saban was down in talent when he got to Bama- and what did he do? Lost to Crooms and ULM on his way to 6-6
I see what you are saying but what are the primary functions of a CFB HC? To me it is:
01. Good staff hires
02. Recruiting
03. Keeping the whole program on the same page
04. Dealing with alumni/boosters/local media.
Coach Saban does 1-3 very well, not sure about #4. At LSU he seemed continually ticked. But to your point, if an HC is overachieving with 2&3 stars, congrats but he has failed at a primary function of recruiting.

The answer is Chizik, just look at what he is doing to ULM today.

I think Les and Saban are about the same
I'm a bottom line guy and Coach Saban has accomplished more (3 NC and 3 CC to 1 NC and 2 CC) but let's revisit this question when the chapter is closed.

Saban is number one, either spurrier or miles for second.

Les Miles is winning with Saban's players.

Spurrier dominated conference much of the 90's and took SCar to a level they have never been before.
(TigerNation, I'm the biggest CLM homer around, just the way I see it)
But like I said earlier, a good question to revisit when it's all said and done. My money is still on Coach Miles. Hopefully have to about 2020 to find out.

Give Spurrier the talent at LSU or Bama, and I'd take him easily over Miles AND Saban.

proves you don't know shite. bama had tons of talent when saban arrived. they were just undisciplined and he weeded out the one's that didn't want to excel.
