Seriously, I have a ton of respect for him. He has been the LSU coach and started something no one can stop here.

With that considered, wouldn't it be fair to say that recently his linebackers have been the best nationally, as opposed to his secondary?

I assume Saban continues to control the entire defense, although he personally coaches the dbs. Why doesn't he get credit nationally as one of, if not the, best developers of linebackers? Why doesn't he get more recognition towards this?

Would anyone argue that the linebackers weren't the heart and soul of the 2009 and 2011 squads?

Our DB's have been really good. Other than that, I don't know.

Kirby Smart coaches LBs. He's gonna be the next coach at UGA, I'd bet. As soon as the Dawgs wake-up to the fact that the "kindler, gentler" approach of Mark Richt don't win championships.

Good question. He personally coaches the DB position so that is the main reason, but linebacker has been the best position on the team since he got here. Still, he has had lots of DB's taken high in the draft as well.

I think Saban is known more as an exceptional player developer more so than a DB or Linebackers coach...jmo

Saban appears to have a knack for getting people into the NFL, including himself — he had two stints totaling six years as a pro football assistant with Houston and Cleveland. Saban also spent two seasons at the Dolphins’ head coach.

His first job in which he was solely in charge of defensive backs was at Ohio State in 1980-81, and according to pro-football-reference.com and the school’s lettermen list, four of his players played at least a season in the NFL. At Michigan State as defensive coordinator and secondary coach in 1983-87, he had six defensive backs move on to the NFL.

His 2003 national championship team at LSU had six defensive backs letter that season who eventually played in the NFL. At Alabama, he has had five play in the NFL, although pro football rookies Mark Barron (Bucs), Dre Kirkpatrick (Bengals) and DeQuan Menzie (Chiefs) are set to make it six, seven and eight this season

Well I think his DB's at Bama have done pretty well, way above average at the least. But when you have a front 7 like they've put on the field for the past several years I think the DB's simply don't have the opportunity to make glaring plays and stand out. Which is always a good thing, just my opinion

Having been of smaller stature his entire life, Saban became quite adept at finding innovative solutions for the condition.

He's a very solid DB coach, his DBs tend to look better due to his other trait that I'd say is far better. He's one of the best game planners in the business. It is easy to make a defense look good when they are well prepared for the offense they will face.

As has been mentioned, Saban was a defensive back in college. He also works specifically with the defensive backs during practices. The style of defense Saban runs leaves the corners on an island constantly. The DBs are very physical and often are challenged in 1 on 1 situations. I think Nick Sabans defensive backs have been much better at Alabama than they were when Saban was at LSU. Marquis Johnson may be the best example of a what a good DB coach Saban is. I know that names means jack shite to other SEC fans, but Bama fans know what I am talking about.

Dude really? I guess you forgot the reporter when Nick was at LSU that told Nick he knew absolutely nothing about defense and bet Nick he could not teach him anything in 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, the reporter knew ins and outs of basic coverages. That's what makes him great, his ability to break shite down so even dumb asses get it.

It's funny how many gumps come out of the woodwork to answer some arbitrary question about the program. lol.

The old joke that there really isn't anything else to do in that retched state holds up well, doesn't it?
