Is there any signs of tornado damage left in Tuscaloosa?

15th Street still had an awful lot of empty lots the last time I drove down it. I'd say it will take several more years.

My understanding is the Mayor wants to play God with some redevelopment plan that is ironically making it harder to rebuild.

Playing God is a stretch, but yeah he wants to revitalize some of the areas that were somewhat blighted prior to the storm.

Given the proximity of the damage to campus, it seems a perfect opportunity for an 'urban renewal' project.

I doubt it. I know it wasn't as bad as Joplin, but Joplin is still heavily destroyed, so I'd imagine Tuscaloosa is pretty bad still too.
