UT's 67 claim might actually be worse than Bama's 41.

Btw there are other years that UT could claim if we used the standards of some schools
Care to elaborate?

We don't either.
And yes, you should claim 1908, it's recognized by the NCAA.

Not really, since we finished #2 in the AP compared to #20 for Bammer.
That's still a shitty claim, though. (If only we didn't miss the FG against OU at the last second )
IDK who the frick in the AD decided on that... I didn't even know that was claimed until they put the Nat'l Title seasons up in Neyland a few years ago.

FWIW, 1938 is counted by sports illustrated and ESPN as a consensus title. They have credited UT with 3 consensus titles even when the school claims 6, so it's not just copying the schools claim.
Contrary to the OP, 7 national selectors existed in 1938. 6 of them selected Tennessee. AP was the exception. It was in its third year.
It's a similar situation to UGA in 1942.
It's basically considered a consensus title.
OP generally does a terrible job of characterizing what happened in those seasons as well.

'Bama could as well: 1937, 1945, 1966 and 1977.

22 selectors picked us as champions in 84, including the New York Times.

That said, I honestly wish we would drop the 1941 claim. No need for it and it brings the others down.
Can we claim 66 instead?

IDGAF what the Dunkell Index says. You want to throw in the Knoxville Washeteria Owner's Association Poll while you're at it? One of those clowns picked LSU as 2011 National Champs. Should we claim that?
There are 2 Polls pre-BCS, the AP and UPI/Coaches. Everything else GTFO.

The NCAA doesn't recognize anyone's football championships as far as I know.

It would be a better one, that's for sure. I still need to read The Missing Ring. Been gathering dust on my shelf for a year.
