There is no certain tier when it comes to a sidewalk fan. You either attended the school or you didn't.
I don't care if you lived across the street from campus your whole life. If you didn't attend a class then you're a sidewalker.

I'm a fan of the Miami Heat. I've been to FL a few times, but only the Destin area and Panama City for a few spring breaks years ago. I haven't attended anything Heat related. Does that make me a sidewalk fan?
makes you a bandwagon fan.

Are there different tiers of non-sidewalkers? For instance, graduating from the university v. attending 1 class.

You can say that about the flagship of every state. I see that a lot in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, etc. Not only did those fans NEVER attend any of the schools, they've never been to college period.
True. It seriously irritates the hell out of me how obnoxious sidewalk Bama fans are though. I guess that's because I'm in Mississippi and you run into the occasional high school drop out, toothless redneck, "This is for the Bear Roll Ride" type of Bama fans.
They can't spell Tuscaloosa and the only things they know about Bama are 14, The Bear, Mark Ingram, Nick Saban and Roll Tide.

When the school those "real fans"* support stop accepting funds from the state (or other public entity) that ALL citizens of the state contribute to via tax code....then those "real fans" can profer scorn as they may. Until then...they are simply fans that also happen to be alumni.

He's not off to a terrible start. I can forgive the whole "Freeze was a HS girls basketball coach lulz" post he made. There have been much worse.
It will be funny if Freeze beats Mullen. You can say Mullen lost to a girl's basketball coach.

Well if you grew up pulling for the university your parents attended but you went to a different university but continued to support them, I could understand that.

What if you attended freshman orientation but ended up not going to that school?
What if you went to said school, graduated, went on to graduate school, earned your Masters and Ph.D, and never once attended any sporting events the entire time you were there? Then all of the sudden you started acting like a super fan?

Why are alumni and attendees so insecure that they need to separate themselves from fans that didn't attend the school they cheer for?

I've been going to UF games for 20 years. Applied to go there but didn't get in.

Nice try, flamer, but I was a fan of the Heat way back when Rony Seikaly was banging it out on the hardwood way before he became an unbelievably sweet dj.

What's even more funny is how booster members that donated large amounts of money get better tickets to bowl games over some while some alums/students are left out in the cold.

You get a pass if you ACTUALLY applied and was serious about attending that school. Hell they can't accept everybody but at least you actually wanted to attend class at said school.

They should at least send me my $30 back for the application fee...

My interpretation of a sidewalk fan is someone who claims the team as their own, but knows absolutely nothing about them.
I have friends who are absolute die hard Razorback fans that graduated from UCA, etc. and they know every minute detail of the razorbacks.
I also have friends who graduated from the UofA that know not one damn thing about football, except that there is drinking before and after the game.
I would say that my friends that graduated from the UofA that know nothing about the sport are bigger "sidewalk fans" than my friends who attended a different school that live and breathe Razorback Red.
