Nick Saban and the NFL Draft

So I went to Crimson Caravan in Atlanta last night and heard Coach Saban speak. During one little segment of his speech he started talking about the NFL Draft and how he expects 5 of our players to be drafted in the 1st round. He then went on to say that, with the 4 we drafted last year, and the 5 (assuming everything comes to pass) we drafted this year, Alabama will have had 9 players go in the NFL Draft over two years. He said ESPN has interviewed him as part of a special on that because apparently that's an all-time record. No other school will have seen as many players into the 1st round over two years as Alabama in 2011 and 2012.

How they do in the NFL is a very different story. We have seen this especially with the secondary players, they suck. His linebackers have been good and only 1 or 2 dlineman & they have been ok. Alot of his players tend to be scheme specific and cannot adapt to others schemes.

I think they're pretty decent players in the NFL. Just because they aren't super stars like Ray Lewis, Emmitt Smith, and Deion Sanders doesn't mean they're failing in the NFL.

During a teleconference this morning, ESPN NFL Draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. said Alabama players, particularly the ones available in the later rounds of next week's NFL Draft, are already in future teams' good graces thanks to the preparation they received under Nick Saban. For the players who are still available during the third-seventh rounds, it's good for a "half-a-round bump up," Kiper Jr. said. "People love the fact they're coached up so well; it's basically pro coaching," Kiper Jr. said. "They're so much more well prepared for what the NFL has to offer. Those kids will benefit from their career at Alabama playing for Nick Saban."

or
Nick Saban starts his own anger management seminar, who enrolls?
or

I have been saying this for a while now. He can get them drafted, but they go on to have average careers. Maybe they peak while they are in college, but GMs have to start seeing that other players (3rd and 4th rounders) catch up to Saban's within a year of being drafted. I love Calipari's comment about KY Players "they get players drafted in the first round and they go on to be very productive at the next level."
