Alabama will have had 9 players go in the NFL Draft over two years. He said ESPN has interviewed him as part of a special on that because apparently that's an all-time record

Wouldn't be a record. Miami had 10 drafted between the '03 and '04 drafts. They also had 9 between the '01 and '02 drafts.

Can we please start one more Nick Saban thread?!

How about these.

Nick Saban vs. Louisiana-Monroe, the rematch.
Who wins?

or

Nick Saban starts his own anger management seminar, who enrolls?

or

Nick Saban hires Urban Meyer, who dies first?

or

How do you have 9 first rounders in two years and not win the division? Is this a coaching issue?

He can get them drafted, but they go on to have average careers. Maybe they peak while they are in college, but GMs have to start seeing that other players (3rd and 4th rounders) catch up to Saban's within a year of being drafted

Miami had 6 first rounders in one of those years, that's just insane

I'll be the last to sit in sabans lap, but frankly, who cares? As a recruiting aspect, getting to the NFL in an early round and getting a big check is what they want. Just like Jamarcus russle. You think the recruits look at "he was a huge bust in the NFL"? No, it's look how much money/how high he got drafted.

True, but at some point smart GMs will start questioning their scouts as to why these first rounders at not producing to their level of expectations. Right now they continue to follow the herd over the cliff, I guess that is why there is such a high turnover of GMs.

If the NFL draft prospects were all home run hitters. Then GMs would never get fired.

Honestly, the jury is still out on Saban's players from 'Bama.

The OP was being specific on last years draft and this years draft. I'm not familiar enough to know Saban's other first rounders before coming to Bama. But I believe every 1st rounder from last years draft at some point started for their respected teams. And being their first year in the league with a very short training camp I don't know what else you could ask for. So basically you are saying these GM's should quit picking players that will start in their first year?

A much bigger selling point in recruiting than the leather helmet era national championship when Bama smoked The Dothan Welding Academy in the 1492 Soup Bowl

Julio Jones would have made a Pro Bowl, if it wasn't for his hamstrings, story of that kids life. Also, Falcons gave up so many draft picks for him...It's hard NOT to be a bust when it's a "all in" move by the Falcons. He did very well though. When he played.

Mark Ingram, was hurt all 2010 with a knee injury was never 100%. Then throw in the fact that the training camps were incredibly short.

Marcel Dareus, was drafted by the Bills who just implemented a new style of defense and it is still the BILLS. 43 tackles and 5.5 sacks in your first year as a DT in the NFL is not bad considering all of the circumstances.

James Carpenter started 9 games for the Seahawks as a rookie before he tore his ACL.

Close look at the 6 potential first rounders this year.

Richardson- Legit, but it is risky to waste a first round pick on a RB.

Upshaw- Legit late first round pick, but will be hard to pin down a position for him at the next level due to size.

Kirkpatrick- Zero Ints last year, but the scouts claim he is physical. He has made a practice of lowering his shoulder and hitting players below the waist. If he continues to do that at the next level he will spend more time on IR than playing. AL played very few QBs that put any pressure on their secondary, so how good of a cover man is still up in the air.

Barron- best player in their secondary but played very few QBs that put any pressure on their secondary, so how good of a cover man is still up in the air. Cam and Garcia lit them up in 2010.

Hightower- May be too slow to play LB at next level

Menzie- See Kirpatrick and Barron

If you are a first rounder, you will start at some point in your rookie year. Too much money invested to sit on the bench.
