Earlier this week I made the comments that this year's Kentucky basketball team is the greatest that they have ever had. I couldn't be more wrong. Yes, this year's team is has loads of talent and dominates opposition at ease, but they wouldn't last more than a half with the '96 Kentucky team. i made those comments having just watched the game sunday and I was obviously impressed as I have been throughout this season. I also hadn't watched any real footage of the '96 team in years. After watching some solid footage of the Pitino show, I quickly realized my erroneous statements. That '96 team had depth like non other.

Being a lifetime Wildcat BB fan I believe it is hard to compare team to team. This years team is the best talent in the top 6 players UK has ever had. All six can drive with the ball and shoot from outside the arc. Couple that with the ability to control the paint against most everybody. The problem with this yrs team is they have no depth past 7th man and they are quite young. Nobody has pushed them deep into the bench this year.
I agree the 96 team was awesome in its own right. Pitino played like the barn was on fire and he played 11 guys almost every night so he wore teams out... JMHO

They beat us 129-97 in the PMAC in '96. Halftime score: 86-42.
