Interviewer: When Coach Saban was at Miami, he was one of those college coaches that really didn't transition well. If he got another shot and decided to take it in the NFL, what about him do you think would make him successful?
Marcell Dareus: He got to loosen up. The control he has in college, you will never get that in the NFL. You have to be more relaxed about it. We're all grown men here. We all have families. We all get paid by the same person so he got to relax a little bit.
Remarks starts at around the 6:30 mark of this video. LINK

Exactly why he's suited for the college game.

Yeah, most college kids don't need a buddy. They need a foot in their arse.

Hell yeah. The man's a star here.
Was a huge get for both Bama and CNS.

Precisely why we always say he's happy in the college game.

The two coaches in the Super Bowl aren't exactly loose. Coughlin has calmed a bit but he was nuts.
Part of Saban not doing great in the NFL was the Dolphins talent.
Some of the most successful coaches have been giant pricks and control freaks.
It isn't exactly like Saban failed with a stacked team.

I hear vince Lombardi was real buddy buddy with his players.

Didn't he oversee all personnel transactions? Tough to blame his failures on the team's talent.

Bill Parcels was totally laid back as well

I would have been a grumpy NFL coach if I had to pick between Joey Harrington, one-legged Culpepper, and Cleo Lemon at QB.
Thank goodness that they didn't get Brees or Saban would have probably never come back to college.

Chose Culpepper's knee over Brees's shoulder. Oops!!!

Which is exactly why he's suited for the college game. And why he'll be at Alabama until he retires.

Hopefully sooner than later.

Didn't he take over a 4 win team whose best player only played when he wasn't toking?

A turnaround of 4-12 to 9-7, but his NFL head coaching legacy will always be the 6-10 2006 season and "Dante Culpepper over Drew Brees". No matter. He'll be in the College Football Hall of Fame one day, and remembered as the top coach of the modern era.
