Bama - LSU isn't a rivalry, it's more of what's called a "circle game." It's one of those games you pick out before the season starts and make sure that you don't miss it.

There was a reason for that you know.

More recently we hated Fat Phil for turning us in on the Albert Means fiasco because he got out bid. I'm happy that we don't do that anymore but who likes a snitch.

I love the fact that bama fans complain about this so much and act like a travesty occured. Serves bama right, they did the same thing to auburn in the 50's

The UT rivalry is more about history, the auburn rivalry is about hate. But like was said, it does have some geographical reference as well

Its only a matter of time before UTk is a good team again. The last 2 times I've been to Knoxville their fans were very nice and almost embarrassed of their team. But I also went in 1982 when they beat us up there for the first time in like 10yrs. They went nuts and were as obnoxious as USCe fans last year. Don't get me wrong, I love the rivalries including the AU one but if there is little UT hatred sensed at this time its because we've won 6 in a row.

It doesn't matter how old you are to gauge the level animosity between the two fanbases. I've lived in Alabama for my entire life, and fully comprehend the magnitude of the AU/ua rivalry. And I know that for Bama there exists an obsession for Auburn unparalleled by any other school. Of course I'm not ignorant to the history of Bama-UT, but it's blatantly obvious where the real hate lies.

If you're not over 22 or so you have little personal knowledge of the UT rivalry. Every person born in the state of Alabama has to declare AU or Bama. Even people that just moved here have to study it and declare within their first year to be considered a friend to anyone lol. So, the AU rivalry is easily more recognizable by young Bama fans. But there is a latent dislike for UT just below the surface.

I am over the age of 22. You're trying to tell me that I have to be older to understand that Bama hates UT on the same level as AU. Other than the Fulmer incident a decade or so ago, nothing has given any indication for that to be the case. As I said, Bama fans obsess over AU far more on a daily basis, 365 days a year, than they do for UT. It's more of a one week thing for UT. It's sort of like UGA for us.. We obviously want to beat them because they are a traditional rival, but we don't concern ourselves with what they do all year long.

I have many Bama fan friends and literally none of them talk about UT in the offseason, and only discuss them on any topic during the week leading up to the game. Message boards, talk radio, and general day-to-day interaction overwhelmingly suggest that AU is on their minds more than UT. I have absolutely no doubt about that, and with you being involved in the rivalry and indicating that you know even new residents of the state must pick a side, I'm confused as to how you could reasonably come to any other conclusion.

Just my opinion, but here's how I think it went down. Saban watched the 2007 Bama-UT game and called up Sexton to tell him to put out feelers for an opening at Bama. About the same time, Miles is talking to Mich. On the day of the SECCG, Herbie shocks the world with news about Miles going to Mich. That forced Miles hand, and he had no choice but to profess his undying love for LSU. Saban announces for Bama the following Jan.

I say if Herbstreit had kept his mouth shut, Miles would have eventually slunk out the back door and headed to Mich. Saban would have glommed onto the LSU job. Just my $0.02.

You have your years mixed up. Saban was already the head coach at Bama in 2007.

If I was a billionaire, I would offer Saban 100 milloin to retire.

Would he take it?

I sense a lot of fake hatred for UT from Bama fans. It seems obvious when several posters start those dumb "Official I hate Tennessee" threads. It looks like some pathetic attempt to keep the rivalry alive, but should a real rivalry stoop to such desperation? It looks as if they're begging for their rivalry to get the attention they feel it deserves, when everyone can see it's all horseshite.

I never see Bama fans actually flaming Tennessee fans. I especially don't believe Bama fans when they say they think about UT all the time in anywhere near the same level as they do Auburn. When someone says that I just think they're full of shite. It's really not even close, and everyone knows it. They just say it because that's what they think they're supposed to say. I don't think there's been any real hate there in a long time.

Um, okay...fan of Auburn...now tell us what else Alabama fans think and feel.

Your post is as ignorant as the LSU fans saying we just pretend to not care about them...

No one thinks LSU-Alabama is on par with Alabama-Auburn or Alabama-Tennessee in terms of a 'rivalry'. But its hilarious to me the indignation so many Tide fans show at the mere mention of 'rivalry' and LSU vs Alabama considering in the Alabama-LSU game programs in Tuscaloosa published by Alabama's SID at least three times there's a reference to "the Alabama-LSU rivalry".

But keep saying LSU means as much and is important to Alabama as the Ole Miss game is.

I don't think they're saying it's less important than the Ole Miss game. IMO, they're saying the LSU-Bama game is a great series, but it's not as big of a game to them as the UA-UT or UA-AU game.

I think LSU/Bama is comparable to UTK/Florida when that was "the game" for 4-5 years. Now it's painful to watch.

Bama rivalries last 20 years IMO
1. AUB
2. UTK
3. Florida
4. LSU
5. Arky

I agree that AU/Bama is the strongest and best rivalry going today in all of CFB. But just wait until UT beats us again sometime in the future. I can't see it overtaking AU anytime soon but the UT/Bama rivalry can become a close second in a flash.

So is your implication that Bama fans are equally interested with UT related issues year round in the same manner as they are with Auburn related issues?

I honestly think it has a lot to do with some of the LSU fans who have been saying things like the Tennessee game doesn't matter and that the LSU/Bama game is better because ESPN says so.

Tennessee have been pretty quiet/irrelevant lately.

recent events like 28-27, Harvey Updike, Auburn winning NC (and Bammers pulling dearly against it) fueled way more fire imo. Bama/Auburn fans have been talking shite to each other 24/7, 365 days a year for the last 2 years.

good UA and UT team playing each may be even better than Texas/Oklahoma, Michigan/Ohio State game. but it's been like 20 years.
