Nick Saban has now won 3 National Championships and exceeded my expectations as an Alabama fan. However, there is much debate over whether or not Saban "built" programs at LSU and Alabama or simply continued success. I am of the crowd that firmly believes Saban resurrected both programs from the abyss. Let's take a look:

Pre-Saban LSU:
1990-1991 4 W - 6 L
1991-1992 5 W - 6 L
1992-1993 2 W - 9 L
1993-1994 5 W - 6 L
1994-1995 4 W - 7 L
1995-1996 6 W - 4 L - 1 T
1996-1997 10 W - 2 L
1997-1998 9 W - 3 L
1998-1999 4 W - 7 L
1999-2000 3 W - 8 L

TOTAL: 52 W - 58 L - 1 T (46.8%)

Pre-Saban Alabama:
1997-1998 4 W - 7 L
1998-1999 7 W - 5 L
1999-2000 10 W - 3 L
2000-2001 3 W - 8 L
2001-2002 7 W - 5 L
2002-2003 10 W - 3 L
2003-2004 4 W - 9 L
2004-2005 6 W - 6 L
2005-2006 10 W - 2 L
2006-2007 6 W - 7 L

Total: 67 W - 55 L 54%

Both programs had been very, very average for atleast 10 years with only a few 10-win seasons (even a blind squirrel finds a nut eventually). Saban revived both programs through superb recruiting and won 3 National Championships...really fast. Alabama's talent level was near the bottom of the SEC when he arrived Post-Shula... I cannot speak for LSU for I do not know their program history as well. Saban

Saban can't sustain a program though. He can only build.

He clearly built a program at LSU... At Alabama, the program was built before he got there, but when combined with Sa%an they became the dominate program in the country...

I have heard LSU fans say Dinardo left him a lot of talent. That wasn't the case at Bama. Did a good job of coaching up what was there and mixing it well with new legit talent.

Saban has also done better at Alabama than LSU. More wins at Bama and another NC.

Mich. St. was just going on probation when he took over. Did well, under the circumstances.

Dinardo started the great recruiting at LSU. Saban took LSU to another level by improving facilities, winning nat'l title etc. It is a joke when people say he can't sustain a program.

For real, he's still sustaining the LSU program 7 years later.

Many tiger fans want to hide from the facts but Saban should get credit to this day for what he did. Not only did he improve the facilities but by winning a national title he proved that LSU could be a powerhouse. All the kids that are being recruited now only know LSU to be an elite program. In the 90's most of the talent in Louisiana would go to Miami, Michigan, Colorado, Florida St. etc.

Recruiting kids to LSU is easier now then it was 10-15 yrs ago.
