Does A&M's entrance hurt the Ole Miss/Miss St. athletic programs

Not a flame
The point of the thread--more years than not over the past two decades A&M has probably fielded better men's sports (football, basketball, and baseball) than Ole Miss and State.
A&M has richer resources than both, easier access to recruiting...Ole Miss can ill-afford another football loss on their schedule each year when they can't even make the SECCG. State has made it once due to a very rare year in which the SEC West was terrible.

Yes. But the entrance for yall will hurt yall more than it does those two "programs"

Who gives a shite at this point. We'll still win the party by a wide margin.

I don't see how it would hurt us. We don't recruit Texas at all. Yes it's 1 more team we have to deal with, but that's about it.

How can the football situation be much worse? I dont't think there is a huge gap as far as basketball and baseball go.

I don't think it will hurt recruiting at all. We only have 4 TX guys on our roster (2 Sr's) and no commits from TX kids this year. I really can't see aTm pulling many MS kids either.

If Football YES
However both State and Ole Miss have had and will continue to have just as good or better baseball and Basketball programs.

Miss beat us in basketball a week or so ago in a squeaker.

You mean MISSISSIPPI STATE, and it was FAR from a squeaker. We led by double figures the ENTIRE GAME, and by 20 in the first half.

Helps us this year. We replace UGA and Florida with Mizzo and A&M

This, plus we get a bigger welfare check from the SEC

It would be next to impossible for college athletics in Mississippi to get any worse. We have baseball to thank for mass suicides being averted.

How could it make it any worse?

If the SEC went to a 9 game schedule, then it would hurt. If TAMU simply replaces Florida/UGA/USC/UT, then it wo't matter much.
TAMU coming into the SEC could HELP State recruit in Texas. MSU will have more exposure there and the kids in Texas will more easily get out of the Big12 mindset.

In the past, we have. Nutt recruited Texas a good bit.
We'll see about this new staff. It looks like Freeze is emphasizing Mississippi a lot. I'd love to get some recruits out of Texas.

A & M entering will do nothing but help State and Ole Miss. It gives us an opponent in football that we can get a win against in the west and it opens doors for recruiting in Texas. There's no way it hurts.

I really don't have a good answer other than the top prospects wouldn't consider us with offers from Texas, aTm, LSU, etc. The caliber of recruit we COULD get from Texas we can just get here in MS or AL. 95% of all our recruits come from MS, AL, LA, GA, FL.
