Any regrets with firing fulmer?
I know kiffen really messed you guys up, but still would not have happened had fulmer not been fired. Didn't he have a 10 win season and won the east the year he was fired?
If fulmer was still coach tenn would probably be doing very well right now considering how down the east is.
Oh well. Glad we got the chief out of the deal

.......are on suicide watch. I'm watching the Sunday morning post-mortem show right now. The host looks like he hasn't shaved in a week and has been on a 7 day bender. There isn't much light at the end of the tunnel either.

the year prior to him being fired. I agree that it was a stupid situation. He was one year removed from losing the SECCG to the National Champions.
The only firing in the SEC dumber in recent memory is Ole Miss firing David Cutcliffe. At least Cutcliffe would have been able to recruit a top notch quarterback with relative ease due to the experience with the Mannings.
Another reason that I'm glad that people other than LSU fans get to decide Les Miles' fate. He's not my favorite coach. But if we get rid of him for some stupid reason, it could easily set back our program 10-15 years.

But to answer the question, no. Hamilton not firing Failmer after 05 is why we're in this position.
Our upperclassmen are OVC quality thanks to Failmer.

Miles is a top two coach in the nation and hes not your favorite coach

He brought the lulz in recruiting post 02. So not sure if serious...
Our coaching staff was god awful on top of that. I hate him more than any man in Tennessee athletics. Every Saturday I hate him more.
We would be sitting on 13 years without an SEC title with the same coach, and you think Tennessee fans would want that? East titles are nothing.

Jesus Christ. People have no clue about somethings.
Fulmer is the reason that Tennessee is so down right now. Yeah, really. Kiffin didn't help the situation but Fulmer is the reason for the state of the program.

It's not the letting go of fulmer that UT fans should regret... it's the hiring of Kiffin and subsequent hiring of Dooley they should regret. It needed to be done (fulmer that is). But you can't compound an already difficult situation for your program by making terrible hires.

Correct. Also, Failmer should have been fired sooner.

But, you can't fire Fulmer if you don't have a better coach already lined up. It would have been better to keep Fulmer another 2-3 years if you could get an actual legitimate coach afterwards. Canning him when they did and then being stuck with consecutive hires of Kiffin and Dooley prove that it was the wrong call.
There's a reason you ended up with Kiffin and Dooley. Should have waited to fire Fulmer until a top notch ball coach was guaranteed.

Actually, we can relate to Tennessee. The difference is that R.C. Slocum is not worthy of being mentioned in the same vein as Philip Fulmer.
From 1982-2002, we didn't have a single losing season. Between 2003-2011, we have lost LESS THAN 5 GAMES twice and had 4 losing seasons.

if Fulmer was still coaching the Vols, Chavis would still be their DC. If UT didn't fire Phil, would LSU's defense be the same as it is today?

well, they are stupid. I guess they like winning 7 or less games a year and losing 5 games a year. BTW, Fulmer only won less than 8 games twice in 16 seasons. And, he had 5 or more losses just 3 times in 16 seasons.
This year will mark the 4th year in a row that the Vols finish with 7 or less wins and 5 or more losses (the 1st being Fulmer's last year). So, congratulations Vol fans.

Yeah, think about how awesome we would be if Tennessee still had awesome guys like the Sullins twins on the offensive line.

Funny you mention this... I am friends with a few Tennessee fans who live in Nashville and we were chatting about football yesterday and they said they missed the fat frick.

yeah, just forget all of the NFL DLinemen, LBs, CBs, RBs, WRs, QBs, TEs that Fulmer brought to that crapfest in Tennessee. Not to mention him having one of the best Defensive Coordinators in the country.
He sucked because he had a 5 win season after losing to the National Champions in the SEC Championship Game.

Here is the list of current SEC coaches Fulmer had a winning record against:
Houston Nutt

Almost like the 5 win season he had 3 years before that? But hey, those two 4 loss seasons in the middle were just awesome.

The firing isn't the problem....it was the hiring of K and D.......
