Can Alabama or LSU bump Oklahoma from the number one spot without...

...an Oklahoma loss?
I know it won't matter in the end as long as Bama & LSU win all of their other games. Honestly any team that comes from the SEC west this year should be ranked ahead of Oklahoma by years end even if they have 1 loss.

Yep if the win impressively

I doubt it. Teams shouldn't move ahead of other teams when that team doesn't lose.

I think they should if we are basing this off preseason rankings.

How can a team drop in the polls if they just happen to beat a weak team that week? It's stupid, I think. Until that team loses, they should stay at the same ranking, or move up with a team ahead of them that loses.

Okla can only win 12 games with no championship playoff.......so if 2 other teams go 13-0, Okla should be bumped to #3......and not play in the NC game...........

I agree with that.

Just cause a team is ranked high preseason they should keep that rank? If a team is playing great against great opponents then they should move up. If Oklahoma is playing ok against ok opponents then they should be jumped.

That's horse shite to say a team shouldn't jump another team if they don't lose. That's why I hate pre-season polls. Pre-season polls are the main reason for all the controversy at the end of the season on who should go where. College football loses and gains to many players each year to have a pre-season poll.
Personally I don't care if OU stays at #1 but how will Wisconsin and VT feel at the end of the season if OU, (LSUorBAMA) are all undefeated but since OU was pre-season #1 they keep the spot. That's why college football needs a playoff.

If oklahoma played a close game, Clemson beats FSU, snd Bama or LSU win convincingly, yes.

So if OU is undefeated they should fall below a 1 loss SEC team?

This is the reason that preseason polls suck. With your logic, if they rank Boise and TCU at 1-2 and neither lost they would be in the NC over bama, LSU, etc...
Remember that TCU will be in the big east next year.

Does strength of schedule not matter anymore?

quote:You drop them because the rankings are flawed to begin with. OU was number one to start the season in part because they were seen as the team most likely to go undefeated this year, not because they were seen as the best team. They didn't win the number one spot on the field. This is all part of the reason the rankings are a joke.

Alabama hasn't played anyone yet. This week is their first real game. LSU has beaten a top 5 team, and a ranked in conference MSU team. IF Alabama beats the pigs it'll be a good win, but they still would be lightyears behind LSU.
After tonight LSU would have victories over Oregon, MSU and West Virginia. All ranked. If LSU is ranked 1 after this weekend they will have earned it.
Bama starts earning their rank tonight. As of now they've been given the benefit of doubt. Their defense hasn't played one good offense yet. It's still all hype

not when they were put at #1 with zero empirical evidence they deserve to be there. If LSU rips WV a new one they deserve to be #1. If LSU wins close and Bama skull fricks Arky then maybe Bama will deserve it.

quote:Not only is their no actual evidence that OU is the number one team, there isn't necessarily even a consensus opinion that they are the best team. Rankings at the beginning of a season reflect several things such as ease of schedule and probability of avoiding losses. If the voters had voted the team they thought was "best" this year Alabama would have started the season ranked number one ahead of OU and Arkansas would have started the season ranked ahead of A&M and South carolina. The really screwed up thing is these flawed rankings are still present at the end of the season when a team ranked number one at the beginning of the season is still number one because their schedule was easy (the reason they were ranked number one to begin with).
