Yahoo Sports: Renegade Miami football booster spells out illicit benefits to players

Miami booster Nevin Shapiro alleges he had improper recruiting contact with Orson Charles after the player’s junior year in high school. Among the booster’s allegations:
Charles visited Shapiro’s $6 million Miami Beach mansion in 2008 with his high school coach Robert Weiner and then-Hurricanes quarterback Robert Marve.
Shapiro knowingly had impermissible contact when he gave Charles a tour of his home while pitching a potential commitment to Miami. At the time, the Hurricanes were recruiting Charles.

Yahoo Sports: Renegade Miami football booster spells out illicit benefits to players
quote:
KEARNEY, N.J. – A University of Miami booster, incarcerated for his role in a $930 million Ponzi scheme, has told Yahoo! Sports he provided thousands of impermissible benefits to at least 72 athletes from 2002 through 2010.
In 100 hours of jailhouse interviews during Yahoo! Sports’ 11-month investigation, Hurricanes booster Nevin Shapiro described a sustained, eight-year run of rampant NCAA rule-breaking, some of it with the knowledge or direct participation of at least seven coaches from the Miami football and basketball programs. At a cost that Shapiro estimates in the millions of dollars, he said his benefits to athletes included but were not limited to cash, prostitutes, entertainment in his multimillion-dollar homes and yacht, paid trips to high-end restaurants and nightclubs, jewelry, bounties for on-field play (including bounties for injuring opposing players), travel and, on one occasion, an abortion.

Say bye-bye to some of Georgia's wins

Well I do not know what UGA should do. This seems very minor.

Don't see how the comes back on UGA or Charles in any way.

Neither do I, sounds like more of an issue with what Nevin Shapiro did, than what Charles did. He just went on what he thought was a visit, didn't accept any benefits. Now if he went to Miami, then it would have been a problem

Ineligible player is ineligible....

Lane Kiffin may be 0-6 at Tennessee. Bryce Brown's family accepted impermissible benefits from Shapiro.

This. If any player receives improper benefits their eligibility can be in question. UG, UF, LSU, UM the school where the athlete signs doesn't matter.
ETA: Please don't read this as I'm saying UG is getting the death penalty.

Not if they apply the same logic that they used to arrive at the decision on Cam.
Ignorance of the situation absolves you of all guilt.
ETA: ignorance on the part of the coaching staffs at other schools that is.

He would only be ineligible if he went to Miami, he didn't commit any violations

If that's the case then no one has anything to worry about except Miami. All the players did was receive extra benefits but since they didn't go to UM then it's A-OK. Keep telling yourself that.
The NCAA may think differently.

What benefit did Charles receive?
The only thing mentioned was "impermissible contact" by the UM booster.
Basically, this would be the same thing if Nick Saban had impermissible contact with Isaiah Crowell. This might affect his eligibility at Alabama, but not at Georgia. Especially since he didn't receive any benefit.
However, if he did receive free shoes, a jersey, etc, than it would be completely different

You better believe they will be in question.. Only have to look around the corner at the Cam Newton situation with Mississippi State.

If that's the case I wouldn't worry about it.
However, this Nevin dude threw around cash and hookers like it was confetti at a New Year's Day parade in the NYC.

It's not a big issue as long as no money or anything of value changed hands. If it was just a visit, won't be a problem.

Wasn't Aubrey Hill just hired as a receivers coach this year? UF might get in trouble for that.
It seems like this might be a scorched earth deal-anyone or any institution with a connection to this mess might get penalized.
