Was Alabama's Success in 2008-09 Due In Part to LSU Being Down?

The worst two years for LSU football in the past 8 years were 2008-09 where LSU went 17-9 with an 8-8 SEC record.
Many have attributed LSU's struggles during this time period to the unforeseen departure of all-everything QB Ryan Perriloux and the mistake of hiring co-DC's in 2008. With those problems rectified, LSU returned to form with an 11-2 season last year and another victory over Alabama, giving them a .750 winning percentage against Bama over the past 2 years and a 2-2 record since Saban has been there.
While 2008-09 were LSU's two WORST years over the past 8, they were the two BEST years for Alabama football over the same time period where Bama went 26-2 with a 17-1 SEC record.
Bama won both games against LSU, 27-21 (OT) and 24-15 where LSU led in the 4th quarter. Both games were really close.
Other than those two games, LSU has won the other 6 contests over the 8 year period, including last year's victory. If LSU had had decent QB play in 2008-09, it is reasonable to think that they would have won those two games as well.
With LSU back on the upswing and a solid QB situation for several years to come, it isn't unreasonable to think that 2008-09 were an aberration and LSU will return to consistent winning against Bama as they have in the past.
If LSU beats Bama this year in Tuscaloosa, you can definitely say that LSU will have gained the upper hand in the rivalry.
Thoughts?

Was LSU's success from 2003-2007 a result of Bama being down?

Not just LSU being down. Auburn, State, and Arkansas were down then too compared to now.

Is LSU's success since 2000 because Alabama was down for much of it?

11-0 regular season without playing Lsu. Lsu was a nonfactor as they have yet to lose less than 2 SEC games per year..

This is what Alabama fans have said over the past decade en masse, so I though that the same logic might apply the other way.
It is not just coincidental that Alabama's two best years coincide with LSU's two worst years, is it?

Yes.

They certainly benefited from LSUs situation in 08 and 09, but we capitlaized when bama was down too so it is what it is. I think everyone in the SEC was down in 2008.
I still beleive if RP stays we beat bama in 08 and 09. Miles would likely be undefeated vs Saban if RP wasnt such a frickup. Oh well.

You mean a past where Alabama leads the series 45–24–5?

Overall, 2008 was one of the worst years for the conference in recent memory (particularly in the Western Division).

I will go to my grave wondering about the follow up season to the '07 BCS Championship for LSU. It defied logic.

No, I mean the recent past. The past 8 years. I defined it fairly specifically.
