Tennessee Coaching Search - Updated list per the athletic dept.

The University of Tennessee has started its search for a new men’s basketball coach with five coaches at the top of the list, according to a source in the school’s athletic department.
According to the source, who requested anonymity because all of the coaches have yet to be contacted, UT plans to have a coach in place within the next two weeks.

The five coaches that were at the top of UT’s list after Bruce Pearl was fired on Monday are:
Pittsburgh coach Jamie Dixon.
Villanova coach Jay Wright.
Alabama coach Anthony Grant.
Texas A&M coach Mark Turgeon.
Wichita State coach Greg Marshall.
UT senior associate athletic director Chris Fuller and UT associate athletic director Desiree Reed-Francois are taking active roles in the coaching search along with athletic director Mike Hamilton, and university chancellor Jimmy Cheek will oversee the process, according to the source.

Wright turned down Kentucky two years ago. They're wasting their time going after those first 3.

I don't know about Grant. He might show some initial interest. It may just be to get a raise from Bama, but I think he may act interested.

Pump the brakes a little bit. I'm not sure on Pitt and Bama. Maybe outbid Nova, but you have to take into account that Nova and Pitt are basketball schools first.

Tennessee athletic dept has waaaaay more money than Pitt.
Bama has more than UT, but they've never put much emphasis on basketball.

look at what Dixon makes now, compared to what Pearl had before the NCAA investigation.
Like I've said all along...TN is going to throw 2-3 million at somebody to sustain what Pearl put together.

They're way better than Bama, but there's still basically 0 chance the a guy like Wright or Dixon would go to UT given the current chaos in their athletic department

Grant would not make a lateral move to TN, and have to coach against Billy twice a year instead of once.

Grant made almost 2 Mil last year. Bama is obviously willing to payhim. No chance UT outbids us. Also no chance he wants the UT job. All that talk last week was complete BS.

Agree. UT fans are forgetting this key point. Good established coaches are not going to make a lateral move into an uncertain situation.

The fact that Bama hasn't made a tourney appearance in 5 years while Tennessee was on the verge of a Final Four just last year and is recruiting at a high level
