Auburn Rivals Rankings

For the year 2009 Auburn finished 8th in the SEC in recruiting, according to rivals. For the year 2008 they finished 4th, and for the year 2007 they finished 5th. These classes comprise most of their Sophomores, Redshirt Freshmen, Juniors, and some Seniors.
Are the rivals rankings way off, or has coaching made the difference? Or perhaps it's only one man---Cam Newton.

Cam Newton. They dont have anything else. Dyer looks like he can be good if they get a line next year.

Auburn better win it all this year, because they will suck complete arse for the next 2 years after this one. Foh rill.

Auburn has been successful this year because of the combination of their veteran offensive line and their prolific QB.
Their offensive line is very good - They came in with the 2007 class, and most of them have been starting since they were freshmen I believe. Combine those guys with one of the best players the SEC has ever had, and you get an offense that is pretty dang good.
Auburn's defense is not very good, and I would say the recruiting rankings reflect their defense's performance. Nick Fairley came to Auburn as a 3* offensive lineman.

I'm pretty sure AU has a couple of 5th and/or 6th year guys on their OL.

Dyer is solid and would have a 1k rushing total this year if he didn't get dinged up for a couple of games.
Auburn has a lot more offense than just Newton. We'd be running a completely different offense if we had Trotter and the offense would still be very solid, obviously not as good as it is now but the drop off wouldn't be as huge as people seem to think.
Rivals rankings has rarely had Auburn in a good light and as obvious the rankings are not panning out. I do think Auburn is playing as good as it can with the recruits and talent it has right now. In a couple of years the talent will be where it needs to be where we can rely on the defense more instead of simply having to outscore teams.
Also to add if you look at recruiting rankings vs how teams actually end up in the SEC it is an interesting tale.

yea you all are right our OLine is terrible and our receivers don't really catch the balls thrown to them they are just delivered perfect that they don't do a thing. Also, with Cam lining up on D AU could have never stopped a drive. It is absolutely all Newton. Nothing to do with coaches cause we all know Cam puts the game plans together. In fact that is what he needed the laptop in FL for was to keep track of his offensive and defensive schemes that Auburn now uses.

They've got one great player and they've gotten all the bounces. They could have easily lost 4 games this year. On top of that, I think the SEC is down. The east is atrocious, which makes the West's record look better than it really should be.
Not to sound bitter, but Auburn is going to do a nosedive next year.

Our offensive line was playing, and is playing, as one of, if not, the best in the country. We struggled early on but after the coming to jesus meeting that changed. Dyer was slowly introduced, I wish they'd have done more slightly earlier I'd like to see him with a 1k rushing yard freshmen year.
Newton has helped Auburn's offense but it starts up front we physically manhandled LSU in that game.
The SEC win percentage is actually one of the best its ever been, during the BCS era. We have 10 teams bowl eligible that should say something.
Next year Auburn will take a step back but offensively we'll have a fairly solid OLine and a lot of sophomore talent on the defense that will get better as the season goes. I'm guessing an 8 win season but who knows a lot can change between now and then.

I agree with a lot of this but we are far from a one man show. Our offensive line is very good and we have more offensive weapons than Cam. He is the difference maker though.
Our secondary is weak but our defensive line and some of our linebackers are very strong. We are very good against the rush..
Dont forget that we have a few pretty good players in waiting that should be very good. Ladarious Phillips, Travon Reed are just a few.
We wont be as good next year as we are this year but dont look for us to fall off the map.

I don't know how good or bad Auburn will be in the next several years, but I do know that Auburn is king of the 3 star recruit, according to rivals.

This year's team is about:
1. Seniors: We have a TON of them 17 or 18 and most are starters and key contributors. NEVER underestimate a team LOADED with seniors. Bama has more talent than any team in the SEC are are 4th in the West. Bama has 7 seniors.
2. Chemistry: Part of having a lot of seniors, but Chiz has said this team seems to have better chemistry than any he has ever seen. They really care about each other. I think the Cam bullshite has helped the team more than people realize. They are a very tight group.
3. Enough talent to be successful with #1 and #2 above and a great leader to tie it all together (Cam).
Of course our coaches have done a hell of a job also.

I love this one. It my favorite!
2008: On 11/30 there were (4) SEC teams ranked in the top 25 in the BCS poll.
2009: On 11/29 there were (3) SEC teams ranked in the top 25 in the BCS poll.
2010: On 11/30 there are (6) SEC teams ranked in the top 25 in the BCS poll.

The SEC is down? Let's look at 2008 and 2009 and compare:
In 2008, after 12 games in the SEC, the SEC had three in the top 25 in the Coaches Poll, UA (#1), UF (#4), and UGA (#16). UA beat one ranked team, UGA. UF beat one ranked team, UGA. UGA beat no ranked teams.
In 2009, there was three teams after week 12 in the Coaches Poll top 25, UA (#2), UF (#1), and LSU (#13). UA again beat one ranked team, LSU. UF beat one ranked team, LSU 13-3. LSU beat no ranked teams.
In 2010, after 12 games, there are 6 teams in the Coaches Poll top 25...Auburn (#2), Arkansas (#8), LSU (#12), USC (#16), Bama(#19), and MSU (#22). Auburn has beaten 5 ranked teams...Arky, LSU, USC, Bama, and MSU.
Arky has beaten 3 ranked teams..LSU, MSU, and USC.
LSU has beaten one ranked team...UA.
USCe has beaten one ranked team..UA.
UA has beaten two ranked teams...Arky and MSU.
MSU has not beaten a ranked team.
SEC has 6 ranked teams in top 22 after 12 games this season.
AU has beaten 5 ranked teams who in turn also beat other ranked teams 7 times.
So, based on this, I beg to differ the SEC is "down" just because Bama or UF isn't top of it.

i'm surprised Fairley has only been mentioned one time in this thread. IMO, Fairley had more to do with beating Alabama than anyone else.

If AU had lsu or bama's receivers chizik doesn't approve the 4th and 3 pass. With Darvin Adams he does.

I credit Antoine Carter for chasing Ingram down and forcing the fumble. That was a "gamechanger"...no pun intended
Also, T Bell's sack was unreal. Eltoro Freeman also had a great day.
Fairley's sack/fumble recovery is the play of the game, though.
