they would field a team they just wouldn't be allowed to go to a bowl for like 5 years and then it would probably take another 20 barring them cheating again for them to make it to a bowl game possibly even longer than smu because of them being in the sec.
eta im not saying auburn is getting kicked just playing around that if they were to get the death penalty a case could be made for kicking them

The chances of a school being hit as hard as SMU again are pretty slim. Do you realize all the bad fallout from that? It single handidly caused the collapse of the SWAC and permanently screwed SMU. They will never punish a school like that again.
A quote from John Lombardi, president of LSU, on SMU and the death penalty:
"SMU taught the committee that the death penalty is too much like the nuclear bomb. It's like what happened after we dropped the (atom) bomb in World War II. The results were so catastrophic that now we'll do anything to avoid dropping another one.”

Actually there are rumors floating around that Cam is not the only Auburn player involved in this as well...
And if we learned anything over the summer, it's that the SEC will target TAMU over TCU.

ive seen those quotes before and i know its something they never want to have to do again but auburn is testing them by committing is 8th major violation. also if its just camgate then they wont get it but like others said if this goes deeper and jay jacobs was covering shite up i dont think you can rule out the death penalty although it would be slim. i think they end up finding more than just cam and they get something bt smu and usc

this.
TCU simply doesn't have the fanbase to compete with teams in the SEC. They struggle to sell out their stadium in the biggest games of the year. Another thing is their religious affiliation. This was the main reason the Pac-10 never targeted them or Baylor, although the SEC may be different on that.

OK... FOOTBALL:
That is changing quickly. They ranked 4th in the NCAA for highest rise in attendance between their 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons with a +7800 per game increase. That figure will likely show an increase of about another +5000 when the figures for this season come out as they have sold out 4 of their 6 home games (and you could factor in the approx. 50,000 attending the opener in JerryWorld if you like as well).
The locals are buying in.
FWIW - TCU's Baseball attendance figured would have ranked in the top half of the SEC for the last 2 seasons.

Now you're just pulling stuff out of your arse.
They were not founded as a "church" school - but were later affiliated with the Christian Church in the the late 1800s. TCU not owned and governed by their church like BYU, Notre Dame, et al. It is self-owned and self-governing. The modern "partnership" is based on a common Disciples heritage and shared values The only religion-related curriculum requirement for the university's enrollment is to take one class from a list of classes which contextualize religion in a historical perspective, a general overview of world religions (past or present), comparative religious studies, etc... in order to increase understanding of other cultures/values.
Nothing that promotes one particular faith over another.

I'm actually loving the fact that this little piece hit my "other" message board first.

Don't know the specifics, but here is a quote from the SEC:
quote:
Beyond Auburn and Newton, at least three SEC schools — LSU, South Carolina and Tennessee — are going through current investigations. A nationwide problem with illicit agent activities has touched football programs at Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina.

It seems suspicious that a TCU poster posted this. Why would a TCU poster has this inside knowledge?

My guess is the TCU poster has a business associate who is the booster with the tapes. Guys with lots of money are sometimes friends with other guys with lots of money. Sometimes they talk sports, seek investment advice from each other... or one may casually mention to another that they just dropped a bombshell on a soon-to-be slackjawed fanbase.
There are plenty of other perfectly innocuous possibilities if you take half a moment to think about it.

Don't know why that guy would have any knowledge but according to some, he posted the ESPN original story 9 hrs before it hit the web. Doesn't look good.....but as many times as "information" has come out....just to be found completely unsubstantiated by anything thus far in this process, I would caution folks to wait until we know something. It doesn't sound like anyone in this thread is even considering the possibility that there is no tape. "Sorry, it was just too much money"? Really? Really.
And what are the Newtons doing talking about hypothetical payment plans with MSU boosters when according to the boosters, the Newton's had hired Kenny Rogers for this?
This is all starting to look really bad but I honestly don't think we know anymore now than we did 24 hrs ago...just more hearsay at this point.
You guys might want to find a moist towelette and clean yourselves up a bit. Heartbreak...no point in you cleaning yourself up...it would be like shoveling the sidewalk when it is still snowing. The joy that you have taken in this and your true hatred for a fanbase because of the school they went to or root for, is pretty astonishing. You honestly hate AU more than normal people hate sex offenders and Bin Laden. I am not going to allow myself to hate you like I want to...like you hate. One thing is for sure...I doubt anyone here knows why...but no one that harbors that much hatred is a happy person. There is nothing I or anyone else on this board could do or say to scratch the surface of equaling your miserable existence. I honestly hope you find a way to improve your life and replace that hate with something positive.

The thing that would have me worried if I was an Auburn fan is that I dont think ESPN and other news outlets would be reporting claims of such a serious accusation without evidence or a very reliable source.

Oh, honey... You're in for some disappointment.
I wouldn't try to fit all the names that have been mentioned previously into this latest revelation.
I think that some of the names brought up prior to this week were all due to those close to the situation grasping at straws trying to figure out who was about to unravel everything.
Was it _______ ? Noooooo. Cuz I never talked to him anyways. Sooooo... was it _________? Nope... Try again.

The only thing I got from your post is that I am going to be disappointed and you are gay. Please clarify what information you have that isn't out there now. And for the love of God, don't call me honey or anything else that suggests you want to lay with me. Thanks in advance.

Then you are an idiot. Especially if you think I "want to lay with you" or whatever. Your tone in general is that of somebody who is angry that they bought into a lie that the whole world is finding out about.
I'm talking about your BCS title hopes going down the drain. It will be a disappointment.
FWIW - I'm female....
....and you have issues.
HAVE A GREAT DAY!

60% of "females" on the web are actually dudes. So where is your info or is this just more of the same? If you are actually female, my apologies on the gay comment. I think most of the time I assume I am talking to a dude.
