A lot of people aren't fully aware, but Florida adopted a formation just for teams like Alabama this year.

The 5-2. The only run straight at you team they played so far was UT, who had 29 yards on 23 carries.

The starting unit on the line for the 5-2:

DE Justin Trattou - Sr - 6'4 255
DT Jaye Howard - Jr - 6'3 302
DT Omar Hunter - So - 6-0, 307
DT Sharrif Floyd - Fr - 6'3, 301
DE Duke Lemmens - Sr - 6'3 250

The back ups which see a lot of time

DE Ronald Powell - Fr - 6'4 248
DT Terron Sanders - Sr - 6'1 309
DT Brandon Antwine - Sr - 6'0 290
DT Lawrence Marsh - Sr - 6'5 290
DE/LB Brandon Hicks - Sr - 6'2 230

It's a powerful unit, and the addition of the freshmen and the return to health of Antwine and Marsh makes UF a very strong front.

Whether they'll slow down Alabama is up for debate at this point. The key is really LB play. UF missed a lot of tackles in the loss last year.

There is a lot of chess play between Meyer and Saban. Meyer tried to run the 4-6 bear like AU did in the SECCG. Saban changed our D specifically for UF.

FWIW I think this was a good move by Meyer. If the LB's can make the adjustments.

Jaye Howard moves to DE in the 5-2.

It goes Howard, Hunter, Floyd, Marsh, Trattou.

The extra lineman should help, but yeah, they need to show up ready to play for sure. DL included.

Put 5 down on us and we will throw on you all day long. Our RB's will become a blocking back and our recievers will be in man coverage all day. I look forward to seeing the game this weekend. It will be a chess match for sure between the two best coaches in the league.

That seems pretty legit.

Bama isn't the type of team to just see that and shy away from the run though. The likely response is "cool...you got a beefy DL...let's see how long they can take us beating on them."

Its 4 quarters of play. Even if the 5-2 stops the run game the 1st qtr...or even the 2nd qtr...there's another half to continue pounding on them.

It's going to be a case of who breaks who's will. Don't be surprised if Bama doesn't start lining Carpenter up next to Fluker and dropping Motley in as an additional TE with Williams/Dial as a flexed TE or HB. That is a lot of meat to run behind, and give the ball to Trent who already demands a lot from defenses to bring him down and you got a system that can push even the best front 7 to their limits.

Not saying Bama is unstoppable, and not saying that lineup won't have some success against the run game. Just saying Saban likely won't shy away from what Bama does best just because UF has designed a "special front" to counter Bama's bruising ground game.
