After the game, LSU coach Les Miles was in disbelief about the penalty on Hitt, reacting calmly at first but becoming more and more animated each time he was asked about it. “I’m only telling you what I saw. I saw a guy lifting him up off the ground. It was pretty obvious,” Miles said. “It was (Bowman) laying (and he) would not get up off the ball and off of the (player). And he tried to create a time issue for the spotting of the ball. And so Lyle picked him up, tried to help him up off the ground. He didn’t hit him, pound him to the ground. He didn’t jump on him. And it was pretty clear. “And so I figured, when the flag was thrown, it was going to be an interesting call.”

Another one for the archives. Too bad it was not SEC officials, it would be all over the news how bad the SEC officiating is.

How was that a bad call? Players can't pull other players around after the whistle blows.

Players laying in the mud on the ball can't delay the game intentionally, knowing full well LSU was out of time outs.
I thought the flag was going against Penn State

Bowman said he didn't think Hitt should have been penalized.
"No, I don't think so, because of what I was doing, " he said. "My reason for doing what I was doing wasn't a positive thing, a good thing. It was to help my team win. I thought the flag was against me at first for laying on him, for delay of game. It went our way, and I'm glad it happened." PSU Bowman Admission

I was pulling for LSu during the game so think of this as an objective opinion. The PSU player was being a schmuck. The LSU player was trying to get the play moving forward and the ball to the ref. The call was still the correct call. Players can not pull players around after the whistle.

The Refs were asleep at the wheel. I've seen Ref's be cognizant of the situation and get players moving. That was not important to the Ref's yesterday. It did not matter anyway, JJ has no feel for a 2 minute offensive drill.

Ref should havedoing his job and called bowman and hitt wouldn't have had to resort to this!

It was a horrible play call and one which he has called before. I think it was Arkansas? If the guy makes the tackle before the first down then the game was over.

still doesn't change the fact that penn st. didn't have a penalty until basically the 4th qtr.
No way any football team plays on that kind of field and not commit a holding penalty or any penalty at all for almost 3 complete qtrs of play. I was told yesterday, it was because of discipline... i almost pissed my pants. Players slip and fall and accidently tackle guys the whole damn game...... just doesn't make sense

quote:I appreciate the support for LSU, but your statemet makes no sense. If you think the PSU player had bad intentions as even he admitted, how in the hell can you say that the LSU player desereved the flag. At the very least the PSU player should have been flagged for delay of game, but more acurately a personal foul for unsportsman like conduct. Even he thought he should have been flagged.

quote:I think the PSU player did have bad intentions. The LSU player got the flag because he was forceful with another player after the play was blown dead. Anytime refs see a ruckus they're going to be focused on that. I honestly believe the refs would have made the call against PSU if LSU had just lined up for the next play. Unfortunately, the incident left the refs no choice. JMO

We had 8 penalties at the time they got their first. Pac-10 refs suck balls.

He had all the choice in the world. The penalty should have been called the moment the ref noticed. "When in doubt it is a foul". Everyone knew what was going on.. I think the ref fudged it accidently.

Arrakis this is just another example of a LSU team prepared by Miles. Head up their asses with nowhere to look. Refs make mistakes but to hear so many of our fan base to point fingers at the mediators only reinforces that our fan base is in complete denial about a Les Miles football program.
