every time kiffin or his coaches or his players have been in the news for effin' up and the coach/program gets NEGATIVE press, some UT fans brag about getting "pub"; "bad pub is better than no pub", "it's keepin' us in the news", etc. just got back from volnation and read the same shite. what is the deal with this? i would cringe and be mighty pissed off if LSU got that much "pub", all for doing stupid shite and violations of rules. this attitude of it's great when kiffin effs up and keeps them in the news is beyond me. it seems to me that when you screw up, you should be punished, not heralded as a hero. is this a generational thing? have we raised a bunch of thugs and law breakers? are there new concepts of right and wrong? i refuse to believe that all UT fans are like that. surely, someone has to be embarrassed and pissed off at kiffin and company. surely, being in the news over bad stuff is not welcome by all. i just don't see this at other schools. kiffin has made enemies and his flippant remarks about rules violations has made some enemies; enemies more powerful than himself. i don't think the SEC and the NCAA want anarchy and it wouldn't surprise me if they are just using this hostess thing to get in there, roll up their sleeves and investigate every aspect about mr kiffin. he just might be in deep ca-ca. i guess that will make these outlaw UT fans really happy with all the pub that would generate.

Their defense of him comes from whatever hope/belief they have that he will make them relevant again. It's hard to blame them but at some point don't you have to say WTF?

The majority of people on Vol Nation dont know shite.....

I like Lane Kiffin and what he has done so far here in Knoxville. He has brought the spotlight back to the University, something that we havent experienced in quite a while.

With that being said, he has made several gaffes, your naive/retarded if your a vols fan and deny this. We have a bunch of secondary violations, so do tons of other schools. We had 2 players kicked off and 1 suspended for a few games. Under Fulmer, we had people dealing drugs, fighting with students, and killing people after they graduated.

Every time Kiffin takes a shot at another coach, many of you are like "Oh, thats so embarrassing, hes making a fool out of himself and UT". Actually, most vol fans, including myself, love this. Its football, people talk shite... Whether he can back it up, we will see.

In 2-4 years if we are still not competing for the SEC, I will agree with everyone on here because if you can talk the talk and cant walk the walk, your arse has got to go. Until then, I give him the benefit of the doubt. Im a junior here at UT, and yall saw the disgrace called our football program in the last few years. My first 2 years here, I saw us lose to fricking Wyoming! This is a far cry from our decade of dominance in the 1990's and success in the early 2000's.

Bottom line is, educated vols fans understand that he has said many controversial things.... At the same time, he has reawakened the university that is still suffering from the Fulmer hangover. I really hope he succeeds, and we have set ourselves up to do so. Next year wont be the year, but give him til 2011 to get players in here and we will be back in contention for the SEC year in and year out.

they may want to be relavent in football, but the University of Tennessee is a college and the president is Kiffin's bosses boss. i would think that "being relavent" is not worth it if the price is too high. the price being contributors to the university (not athletics) getting pissed off and not being so generous in the future. i just don't get it.

You should see the donations that are pouring into our program right now.

I also just talked to a friend of mine who happens to be a hostess, and supposedly the girl in question is from South Carolina. She apparently took some friends home with her over the break and they went to the game.

Rumor going around is we are in the clear, I hope so

Where did you get this notion?

You honestly think that our secondary violations are effecting the University (not AD) negatively? Please.......

Really?

No college = No football.

I predict that Tenn could be setback until 2015 or longer after Kiffin's reign is over.

So all of those Vol fans hungry for relevance and contention, buckle-up for a bumpy ride. Bama football fans and LSU basketball fans can attest to this.

Many of the fans were sick of Fulmer. I thought it was time for him to go for obvious reasons (2 losing seasons in 4 years). The divide among the fan base between keeping Fulmer and firing him was very deep.

However, the big problem has emerged since then. I didn't like the Kiffin hire. I preferred someone w/ REAL HC experience like Mike Leach or Brian Kelly. There were others in the same boat. However if you didn't immediately love Kiffin, you were and still are accused of being a "fulmerite" by the crew that really pressed for his firing. Some actual fulmerites have made this worse by hating on Kiffin for EVERYTHING. But IMO the Vol Messageboards have gotten so bad that its almost impossible to criticize any detail of the program w/o it degrading into a "Fulmer is terrible" thread.

Which leads me to my real point. The people that think this kind of stuff is sophomoric and will backfire have either 1. quit posting on the Vol sites or 2. decided not to post any comments because we know what the "regular" crew will say. However, if you took a real sample of Vol Fans, the feel of the opinions would be different

I don't see how anyone could use the any publicity is good publicity mantra in this siutation but I honestly haven't seen it. I don't doubt that some morons on Volnation are saying just that but I haven't seen it but I haven't really been looking for it either. I don't care about the trash talking to other schools with the exception of calling Herban a cheat since it kind of blew up in his face. I personally didn't care for him one way or the other when he was initially hired as I wanted Kelly but have found myself warming to him the more other fanbases hate him. I don't know why...the reaction he elicits from other fans is hilarious to me. With the exception of our ecofriendly gangsters, which I still have some trouble pinning on Kiffin, he hasn't emabarrassed me as it is football and is supposed to be fun. I also think a lot of his flippant remarks are made in jest. If he doesn't back up his talk shortly his time in Knoxville will have been short but memorable and we'll find someone else to try to turn around our program.

Yes, REALLY.

Most fans of our schools never set foot on that school's campus, or ANY college campus for that matter.

Brah you gotta know the mindset of the Vols. Here's one example;

First question on a Tenessee Admission Test for new students;

Question #1 How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Multiple choice

(A) Depends on how big the Woodchuck is

(B) Depends on how much wood we're talking about being chucked

(C) Depends on how many possible recruits the woodchuck may know

(D) I'm a dumbarse give me a little hint
