Why did it take so long for AUs rivals to agree to come to the Plains for football games? Why did AU allow it? (uga 1960, GT 1970, UT 1974, Bama 1989 (i think))

You obviously have never been to Auburn...

It took that long to get the smell of cow shite out of the soil down there. They basically had to dig up the entire fricking county and haul in dirt.
You still have to park in a pasture when you go to a game there.

uga 1960,
it appears the two played in Columbus, GA until they played in Auburn in 1957

GT 1970,
GT played in Auburn in 1904
also..up until the late 1950's Auburn did not play many "home" games in Auburn on a yearly basis. They played many games between Columbus, GA, Birmingham, Montgomery, & Mobile....

I still think it is hilarious when people from the major metropolitan town of Tuscaloosa make fun of "country' Auburn..

Tuscaloosa is a ghetto. who would want to go there? Pastures > Projects

not only is that racist, it's just plain dumb.
there's one area in town that i've been through maybe two times in my entire life that would be considered a ghetto. no need or reason to ever go down there anyway. only a dumb auburn response to their town of nothing.

Besides Bama who was chickenshit scared out of their minds to come get their arse beat in AU as they KNEW would happen, UT was the last in '74 of the SEC teams. It was a simple matter of LF seating more up until that point (as far as the AU/UT game). After the expansion in the early 70's chickenshit bama was the only team too scared to come play at JH. And that lasted almost 2 decades until the state legislature was about to step in a FORCE their sorry asses to leave their home field in Bham.

Their really is nothing to argue here. The bama posts at the beginning of the thread were about the best they could do and would be better off not touching this subject. AU tried year after year after year to get Bama to AU. Then AU expanded again and had BY FAR the largest and best stadium in the state (LF was pitiful, and Bryant Denny was a serious small little piece of shite at the time). Bama refused. Perkins said Bama would never play in AU, Curry said he feared for his life and called the FBI before the game in 1989. Finally AU had enough with Bama being scared and were prepared to take them to court and have it settled in the courts or state legislature. Bama finally realized they had no choice and came got their arse beat as the number 2 team in the country.

Yeah, whatever...
AU at the time >>>> Legion Field and Bryant Denny was so PATHETIC Bama did not even play most of their own games there.

It took a lot of pressure from Pat Dye who had built AU to be the premier program in the SEC at that time and it wasn't close. Pat Dye may get a lot of crap but he had no issues going to bat for AU and is why he is still respected as the best HC we've had.
