Some apologists will point to the economy. Only 2 SEC schools saw a drop in their sales.

i have a hard time believing this at all.
link?
i can NOT imagine the support/fan-base that Tennessee has is not at least somewhat energized to see their team now that they have a new coach.

I don't know, Tennessee has been pretty bad about having fair weather fans. And last spring they were coming off a trip to the SECCG, where as this spring......

If true? I would believe the reduction in seat capacity is the reason not the fans.

you think if ALL those seats were selling that they would be reducing the amounts of seats?

There's a reduction, but it's not a huge one. Vol Navy has a point about the seat reductions. They removed some of the seats to create the ridiculously overpriced "Tennessee Terrace," which can be yours for a seasonal $10,000 donation (or some insane number like that) per seat.
I also don't think the University won over anyone with the marketing campaign either. The letters they mailed out informing the ticket holders that their section would be converted and giving them the option to "buy in" was mailed out at the beginning of the season. Most people received that letter in the days following the UCLA game.

UT sold 72,855 season-ticket renewals by the May 1 deadline in 2008. This year, 70,785 season tickets were renewed by May 1, a drop of 2,070 tickets.

decreased season ticket renewals?

Actually the reduction in seats is due to the new West Club Level. The Tennessee Terrace doesn't open until 2010.
On a side note, what the hell is up with the ticket prices????
Are the other SEC schools this out of control as well?
Eight seats in the west club level will cost you $800,000 for a ten year commitment. And that is $200,000 less than the East Club from two years ago.
It's hard to believe that I pay 1/8th of that for the Titans club level.

TN fans want us to believe they are energized and headed in the right direction with LK but deep down inside, they're concerned about where they're headed and can feel more humilation around the corner. Kiffin better start winning quickly. Florida is going to drag them through shards of broken glass this year.
