A crushing loss, deep friendships, timely advice and NIL opportunity brought All-SEC forward Thomas Haugh back to Florida.
This combination delivered an offseason windfall for men’s basketball coach Todd Golden’s Gators.
Haugh’s return followed a similar decision by Alex Condon, a preseason All-America forward, Haugh’s roommate and close friend.
“Alex and Tommy have an incredibly tight relationship; they’ve been very close for four years,” Golden said. “That definitely played a part in it.”
Golden, meanwhile, shut down speculation about his future after a report linked him to the Warriors as the organization evaluates its long-term direction.
“I’m definitely planning on coaching the Gators,” Golden said.

Entering his fifth offseason in Gainesville, Golden could have has his best roster yet — one that could improve further.
This hinges on 6-foot-10, 265-pound center Rueben Chinyelu, who is exploring professional options, including a trip to the NBA Scouting Combine. Chinyelu led all power-conference players with an average of 11.2 rebounds, set a school-record with 19 double-doubles, and was named the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year.
With or without Chinyelu, Florida’s core is formidable.

We are gonna be good, but not invincible. Lots of younger players will emerge just like Acuff did this season.

Yeah, but we just got our general back. We don't want you keeping your stock of captains and foot soldiers.
Dearest Mother,
frick Florida and their outfit of seasoned troops.

Florida will be loaded whether it's Golden or Donovan

Florida should be the favorite nationally if Chinyalu comes back but that backcourt has weaknesses that could be an issue in a tournament setting.

Aberdeen should definitely be an upgrade from Lee. Better defender and has been pretty consistent shooter his whole college career. Staff seems pretty confident he will get another year of eligibility.
Just need Fland to hit some outside shots, he was great in all other areas.
We will likely trend smaller and see more Haugh at the 4 when Condon or Chinyelu subs out. Should help us get more shooting on the floor.

Solid 3-point shooter who can self-create.
Think he is going to play off the bench or as a rotational guard?

It would be hard to bring him back to come off the bench. We do have a lot of guards that are going to want more PT though so it should be interesting. Klavchar, Ingram, Lloyd, and both Brown brothers along with the guard we got from Australia are all going to want in the game. That's 7 guards although CJ Ingram and Isaiah Brown can play the 3. We are probably going to add another big since we lost Handlogten and only have a true freshman coming in.
I haven't heard anything about where Handlogten may end up. Any Gators hear anything? Is there a chance he stays?

No doubt. Even a bad NBA roster will be superior to any college roster.

Don't think Micah is coming back. Sounds like our most likely path is bringing in some European guys to help sure up the bench.

Mikic stayed for a 3rd year after sitting for 2 already. No way he stays and no way staff would still want him unless they saw something in him they like.
Mikic will get 10ish minutes a game next year imo. Haugh will play more 4 (when Chin or Condo sub out he'll move over) this year and we'll see a good amount of Brown/Ingram at the 3.

Guess we'll have to return the favor and beat you by 30 in Gainesville en route to a national title again.
