Texas, Mississippi State, and Alabama are all in the top 4 in both.
I hope we stay strong in both. Legitimately surprised at the hitting one.

Early season and one extreme type of game can skew stats.
OU sits at a 6.29 ERA after 9 games and 13th. One game they gave up 14 runs. It was an anomaly. Their pitching has been pretty good.
If you took out that one bad game their ERA would decrease to 4.73 and rank 6th. Of course it did happen but it shows how just one game can skew data in early season.
In the TX series we got swept yet led more innings than TX. And thats after losing G1 14-0. Shows how pitching was great except that one game.

Mississippi state and Texas’ pitching numbers are skewed because they have a small sample size that’s overweighted with games against Ole Miss. Their numbers will come back down to earth when they play teams that swing at pitches in the middle of the zone with 2 strikes!

Whoever is doing the ERA calculations for the SEC web site is doing them incorrectly. For instance, OU's ERA is really 6.23 for the 9 conference games, not 6.29 as posted. Another example is LSU era is really 6.10, not the 6.14 posted.

They're calculating games using 77.3 innings as literally 77.3 innings. For the game calculation, 78 innings should be used. Whoever is doing the calculation doesn't understand that 11.2 innings means 11 innings and 2 outs, thus should use 11.667 for true innings. Sigh, must be a spread sheet formula issue.

What was the K/BB ratio in that Texas series for all that great pitching? With and without that one game.
Here they are,
1st game OU K/BB = 5/7
2nd gm. = 11/12
3rd gm. = 6/7
Without getting into much back and forth, era is just part of the story. The lack of control, in spite of a middling era, is why OU got swept. OU pitching was not all that great. In addition Texas committed 5 errors in the 3 games, half their season total of 10. Texas stranded 24 runners, OU 23.
Texas was kind of lucky to get the sweep. Both teams weren't at their best. The K/BB was the difference. Great pitching, indeed.
For comparison, Texas ratio for the series...
1st game TX K/BB = 8/2
2nd gm. = 9/2
3rd gm. = 14/2

One bad game?? You gave up 27 runs to A&M in three games, so how does that figure into this recalculation?
