LSU could've had a basketball program similar to Alabama's

And they still could, but Matt McMahon is still the head coach of LSU and Will Wade is still the head coach of NC State as of 4:41PM March 20th, 2026. We're approaching danger territory of McMahon being retained the longer this goes on. The money rumors may just be true.

I could’ve dated Kate Upton.

There's still time, Luna. But the clock is ticking, and ticking fast........

LSU only cares about football and baseball and the baseball team is mediocre this season.

Marijuana doesn't grow well in the bayou so no way could they be like Bama basketball.

Wade has never even sniffed the level of tournament success Alabama has recently. Has Wade even made the second weekend?

While maybe not the exact same success as Alabama has had, he would have LSU consistently in the NCAA tourney and finishing in the top 5 in the SEC.

I don't know about that. The league has gotten a lot better since he left. They would definitely be better than they are now though.

Wade had one really good season at LSU. They won the SEC, made the sweet 16, and finished ranked in the top 25.
In his other four seasons he won zero regular season or tournament titles, won a grand total of 1 NCAA tourney game, and finished ranked zero times.
He was better than McMahon. But many here want to remember him like John Wooden.

I will freely admit Nate Oats has done better at bama than Wade at LSU.
With that said the reason he is beloved at LSU like he is is for a few reasons.
First look at the 4 years prior to wade and the 4 years following. Wade on the other hand over the last 3 years at LSU had a top 3 overall SEC record in a very good SEC.
Second even the sweet 16 year we felt cheated because you could argue we would have gone further with Wade actually coaching that tournament.
Third. Every time after 2019 we felt like 1 piece away there would be a hit piece dropped (ie rumors of Moussa Cisse imminent commitment 5* big who we needed to fill out the roster) and then there would be an article claiming “imminent sanctions”. In spite of this he still won.
Fourth and not a minor point. He did all this at an age where Nate Oats was still at Romulus High School. Coaches learn and develop just like players and it felt like he was doing this at this age he would only grow and get better.
