Why do people care so little about SEC men's basketball?

As a big fan of basketball, I was surprised to see there were only a few hundred people in attendance at the Oklahoma-Texas A&M tournament game last night.
Flipped the channel to the Big 12 tournament game going on at the same time, and the arena was packed.

I quit watching years ago (watching with interest, I still catch a few games here and there, but not like I did), because the officiating was so awful. It just wasn’t enjoyable when one team is allowed to be physical and the other isn’t.

The main program that brings the most fans was kind of disappointing this year, but I’m sure more will fill in today on their behalf and Florida

That and the game has changed so much. A lot of old fricks like me don't care for the way the game is played now with all of the flopping and settling for bad shots. I agree, it's just not a good product to watch right now and I barely even watch LSU now much less anyone else. I haven't watched one NBA game this season either because of the same reasons.

Just seems insane to play the game for 4 months, then throw the results out the window for a 5-day tournament, then throw that out for a 30 day tournament for the actual winner.

Nashville is a long way for fans to travel for a weekday game for everyone other than Tennessee fans

Kentucky is the answer, but also, no time in any war has anyone ever cared about dunking a ball.

Well, part of the issue is that it's in Nashville. That's a long way to travel for A&M and Oklahoma, especially considering both are long shots to win the thing.
On the other hand, the Big 12 tournament is being held in Kansas City, and the game that was on opposite of Oklahoma / Texas A&M was Kansas / TCU.
You're comparing the attendance between two teams where the closest campus is over 600 miles away to a game where the closest campus is just 40 miles away.
It should also be noted that the Big 12 tournament was in their Quarterfinals while the SEC was in their second round.
I'd be concerned if, say, the Vandy/Tennessee game was looking sparse. That's a better comparison.

I suspect most fans aren't going to fork over money for a conference tournament as they're more likely to spend their money at the NCAA tournament. So attendance is more likely to be from local fans. Or at least fans that can drive and avoid airports and TSA at this time.

Well for one, the tournament is being held in Nashville.
That's 683 miles from Norman, Oklahoma. It's 782 miles from College Station.
The Big 12 tournament is being held in Kansas City.
The University of Kansas, one of the titans of college basketball, is only 40 miles away. Fort Worth is 526 miles away.
It's a logistical issue you fricking idiot.
But try to spin it as basketball not being as important as baseball like your goal is with this thread.

The officials make it a very tough product to watch. The ridiculous slant towards the home teams. Letting the home fans influence their out of bounds calls multiple times a half. And when they get whistle happy they ruin a game really quickly calling hand checks. Which sucks because they let a lot of contact go in the postseason and let the kids play which improves the product drastically. Probably has something to do with the best of the best college refs being available during the postseason due to fewer games being played in a lot fewer venues. All the games are played neutral floors as well.

It's the exact same thing for me. I was one of the guys that always took off work for the first two days of March Madness and now I have not even watched the championship game in 3-4 years. I think NIL is making me less interested in all college sports. I wish they would at least go to 2 year contracts.
